Value stream manager job description

The Value Stream Manager (VSM) is a strategic manufacturing partner for the product line business teams that is accountable and responsible for increasing the ratio of value to non-values activities in the production processes focusing on delivering high quality products while eliminating waste and reducing costs in the overall supply chain from start to finish. The VSM leads and collaborates with a diverse team of production, engineering, supply chain and commercial talent to ensure that the value stream meets or exceeds customer requirements. The VSM is responsible for all operations, processes and productions plans within Value Stream Manager production plans within the Value Stream and is accountable to ensure those plans and processes deliver on operational performance targets. The VSM ensures products are manufactured with the highest level of quality in a safe and timely manner that will meet or exceed customer expectations.
Responsibilities
• Provides leadership and direction to the production team including developing a culture of teamwork, continuous improvement, and collaborative action.
• Working with product line management, engineering, quality and supply chain, drives continuous improvement and achievement of the team's contribution to critical operational KPIs, including production, material and non-material productivity, on-time delivery, and quality matrix within the value stream.
• Develop and utilize capacity plans to accurately understand resource planning and headcount requirements.
• Develop, review, and present various work/management reports to accurately measure production processes and make improvements to produce improved results.
• Participate with Quality, Supply Chain, R&D and Engineering on new product introductions, lead pilot and production trial runs.
• Maintain positive employee relations using transparency, open communication skills and building an environment of trust.
• Ensure that the standard work for methods and specifications are current and are followed
• Ensure a balanced flow of work, prioritize work orders and capacity to meet customer needs and efficient use of resources
• Communicate regularly with team members on Safety, Quality, Delivery, inventory and Continuous Improvement
• Manage departments budget and costs
• Define training and development requirements and ensure the appropriate training of personnel.
• Regularly provide constructive, verbal and written, performance feedback. Proactively correct performance deficiencies using the Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) process through all the required steps, including out-processing employee if necessary.
• Supervise the timely and accurate reporting of labor and production data. Monitor labor and expense budgets and institute necessary cost controls to meet company's profit goal on assigned programs.
• Prepare and conduct presentations to senior management and external representatives. Such as Program Reviews and Quarterly Business Reviews (QBR)
• Ensure adherence to federal and state laws and company policies and procedures including: Human Resources, labor, safety and housekeeping practices, etc.

About the Team
Workday's Value Management team is a business consulting organization that works closely with Workday's prospective and current customers. Within this team, Value Realization Managers work to help customers quantify, document, and articulate the value they deliver with Workday Enterprise Management Cloud solutions, and advise on strategies to unlock more value.

About the Role

This role will be an individual contributor position with high visibility within the geography and requires demonstration of leadership beyond the immediate span of control. As a Value Realization Manager, you will:
Understand and convey the unique capabilities and value of Workday Enterprise Management Cloud and how it drives business outcomes Work directly with internal partners (Value Managers, Customer Success, Services, Alliances, Marketing, Sales) as well as with external collaborators (customers, partners) to identify and conduct value realization studies and baselines Drive engaging discovery interviews with Finance, IT, and HR teams to uncover value outcomes and opportunity areas Be responsible for the value realization and baseline pipeline and execution strategy in EMEA, supporting our businesses across different countries and the entire product portfolio Collaborate with the broader global VM team to incorporate value drivers for new Workday solutions into Value Realization processes and tools and become an active member of the team by leading initiatives that advance our global practice Travel to customer sites is typically “day trips” and you are in control of your own travel schedule. Travel averages roughly 30%.

About You

Basic Qualifications
5+ years of work experience in a management consulting firm, corporate strategy, sales strategy, enterprise finance, business transformation, or other roles which require analytical thinking Other QualificationsDeeply curious about business and broadly interested in variety of customers/issues Influencing and negotiating skills to manage stakeholders beyond immediate span of control and generate pipeline Excellent verbal and written communication skills Experience with creating and delivering compelling presentations with quantitative analyses Strong project management skills and ability to create and deliver end-to-end programmes involving successful customer success enablement, demand generation or revenue uplift contribution Demonstrated creativity for new initiatives and a “get it done” mentality to achieve results in a fast-paced, highly varied environment Background in HR and/or Finance is preferred, while technology / SaaS familiarity is beneficial but not essential If you are curious, driven and want to be part of one of Workday's key growth initiatives - this role is for you.

What you will be doing
Oversee the order fulfillment process through a group of leaders. Influence cross-functional leaders within a value stream structure, which may include any of all of the following functions: assembly and test, planning, product support engineering, assembly and test process engineering, tactical purchasing (supplier management, supplier quality engineer and supplier quality techs) product quality assurance, continuous improvement and stock room Accountable for value stream metrics and performance (safety, quality, delivery, responsiveness and cost) Responsible for value stream budget, capital plans and staffing requirements Accountable for value stream maintenance and adherence to all related work instructions and documentation Interpret and implement strategy activities to improve the performance of the value stream in order to meet top-level goals Works closely with Sales, Service and Marketing organization to synchronize customer requirements/demand, new product introduction and operations planning and production Responsible for the organization design and implementation of an appropriate structure for current and future business strategies
What We Are Looking For
Undergraduate degree required MBA and Formal Six Sigma training desired 4+ years of prior operations or operational support leadership experience in manufacturing environment required Strong operations focus; proven ability to lead and manage with the following attributes: Six Sigma methodology Successful track record in a lean manufacturing environment Quality standards Able and willing to change the status quo and effectively champion change for both internal and external assigned value streams Ability to facilitate and coordinate problem-solving activities internal and external to value stream Knowledge of manufacturing engineering principles, processes and tools. Knowledge of associated operational processes and controls which he/she is responsible (e.g., Electrical Manufacturing, Special Processes, Assembly and Test, etc.)
