VAMAC company history timeline

1915

Founded in 1915, VAMAC, Inc. has evolved from a single well drilling contractor and supply business to a 20 location plumbing, well, & septic wholesale company servicing the Mid-Atlantic region.

1923

Julian Perry joined the business in 1923, serving as the company’s bookkeeper.

1955

In 1955, the company’s well-drilling division closed in Virginia in order to prevent the conflicts of acting as both a wholesaler and a contractor.

1965

With Julian as President/CEO, the company launched its first expansion by opening the first satellite branch office in South Hill, Virginia, in 1965.

The new showroom featured a wide variety of kitchen and bath fixtures, including the Eljer brass display from the Kitchen & Bath Show in Chicago (the shown display was used at the 1965 World’s Fair in New York).

1967

In 1967, a disastrous fire broke out at the company headquarters, destroying the building which housed the showroom, the corporate office, the city counter, and the company’s entire inventory.

1970

With the company’s new location and early expansion, in 1970, Virginia Machinery and Well Company abbreviated its name to VAMAC, Inc.

1973

Cole owned the company and served as Chairman of the Board until his death in 1973 at the age of 94.
