Role: Substitute Bus Driver
Reports to: Transportation Director
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Know and follow all policies and procedures of the Thomaston-Upson County Board of Education, Georgia Department of Transportation, and Georgia Department of Driver Services.
Adhere to guidelines set forth in the Transportation Department's handbook.
Drive any bus assigned and allow the assigned bus to be used as deemed necessary by the Transportation Director or his/her designee.
Accept route changes when deemed necessary by the Director, in a positive, teamwork-oriented manner.
Follow established policies of the Board of Education and Director with regard to the proper use of leave time.
Assist the Director or his designee in emergency situations which involve transporting students, use of bus, etc.
Participate in training programs to increase skills and proficiency related to the assignment.
Ensure adherence to appropriate safety procedures.
Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies and administrative directives.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
Driver's license must be a Commercial Drivers License, with additional passenger and school bus endorsements
Must submit to and pass an annual school bus drivers physical examination, including random drug/alcohol testing.
Must meet any other qualifications set by the Georgia Department of Transportation, Georgia Department of Driver Services and the state and local boards of education policies.
Must have and maintain a safe driving record.
Ability to work well with students, parents, staff, and the community.
High integrity, excellent character, and good professional reputation.
Abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
Ability to be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
Ability to perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
Ability to perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
Must be able to properly and consistently supervise students particularly during emergency situations.
