Part-time Description Provides safe transportation of all passengers to and from various school bus stops, extracurricular activities, planned events and school facilities. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES EXAMPLES OF JOB FUNCTIONS The list of functions is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. Operates transportation vehicle with heightened awareness of driving conditions and surroundings, in observance of established safety precautions and driving procedures. Stops the vehicle at all assigned stops along the route while taking all precautions and actions necessary to assure safe loading, transporting, and unloading of the passengers; renders assistance to riders with special needs. Instructs children in safety precautions and practices; maintains discipline; reports unruly behavior to school administrator. Signals children when to cross street or highway and assures that children are safely across before departure of bus. Registers students riding the bus and conducts FTE count of students as required. Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections; maintains vehicle cleanliness and sanitation, to include attending to spills and cleaning of body fluids. Assists with planning and operation of transportation routes; identifies efficient routes for daily activities. Reports defects or problems with vehicle to mechanic. Updates route sheet directions as needed. Prepares daily logs and reports of transportation activities as needed. Operates radio system in accordance with prescribed procedures. Utilizes current technology, as appropriate, to perform job functions and participates in training programs offered to increase technology skill level and proficiency related to job assignment.
