    ALMACO is currently seeking a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to work from our central service shop located in Nevada, IA. This position works to complete preventative maintenance, repairs, and modifications of ALMACO combines and planters. Our machines are highly technical, and we work as generalists - this means that you may be working on mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and computer systems. Our machines are also custom-designed for each client, so our team is made up of people who can solve problems quickly and creatively. Daily responsibilities: * Receive on the job training to perform maintenance, preventative maintenance, and repairs to ALMACO agricultural research equipment, including harvesters and planters. * Disassemble products for purposes of diagnosing or correcting problems or installing replacement parts, and rebuild products after modifications, replacements, or repairs are complete. * Maintain service reports on a daily or per-job basis as well as documentation of labor. The ideal candidate would possess: * Desire to learn new skills in hydraulics, electro mechanics and mechanical maintenance and trouble shooting. * High School Diploma or equivalent is required. * A valid Drivers License and ability to be insured under ALMACO auto insurance. * Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills to resolve, discuss and explain technical information with manufacturing, engineers and customers for their complete understanding. * Education or experience with diesel mechanics is preferred but not required. Peak travel times for the Heavy Equipment Mechanic are in the Spring, during planting and in the Fall during harvest. Day-to-day tasks in this position: * Daily, you will work at our Central Service shop located in Nevada, Iowa to complete preventative maintenance, upgrades, and emergency repairs of our agricultural equipment. Tasks while traveling in this position: * Visit client sites for preventative maintenance, upgrades, and emergency repairs of our agricultural equipment. (Field Service Techs support all of the components on each machine: mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical.) * Speak to customers on the phone and via email to coordinate visits as well as provide remote support. * Provide training and education to large and small groups about the use of our equipment and each specific machine. * Assist Engineering and Quality departments in the testing and development of new and modified research equipment. * Promote sales and service of ALMACO equipment while providing excellent customer support. Qualifications for the Custom Agricultural Technician: * Valid Driver's License, clean driving record, and eligibility for a Passport, as well as ability to be insured in rental cars (age 21 or older.) * Very good interpersonal and communication skills to deal with a wide range of people. * Great mechanical skills. (Experience with large machinery will be helpful, but any experience with mechanical repair of equipment is great.) * Basic understanding of AC/DC electrical systems, computer systems, and hydraulic systems. * Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products. * Willingness to travel to customer sites and be on-call, ready to travel at short notice and for extended periods of time. Expectations & Responsibilities: Receives, counts, verifies, labels and stores all parts Uncrates, removes gaskets, disassembles For glued gaskets - puts plate on hook, submerges in liquid nitrogen, after removed, stacks plates on skid in preparation for chemical dip Fills out Preliminary, Actual, Final Inspection reports and reads PLA/Drawings as job moves through shop Dyes penetration inspection process - takes plate into room, sprays die on one side and inspects under black light for holes, cracks or other irregularities in plates. Rinses remaining dye from plates Cleans units (pressure wash), paints if specified Installs new gaskets per specification (glue, snap or clip) For glued gaskets - glues gaskets to plate and tapes in place, moves to cure oven, posts cure, inspects and removes tape, stacks plates for assembly either configure per specification for plate packs or assembles to frame per drawing For clip or snap on - assures gasket is secure - stacks plates for assembly either configures per specification for plate packs or assembles to frame per drawing Recognizes and communicates the need for replenishment of supplies, tools, along with the need for repair parts and other facility needs to supervision in a timely manner Directly responsible for keeping work area and surrounding equipment clean and organized.
