VHB's Metro DC offices (Washington, D.C. and Tysons, VA) are seeking a CAD Designer to join our Site Civil/Land Development team to support our land development projects.
Responsibilities:
Establishes design criteria for an assigned phase of a project requiring the application of basic engineering principles, material properties, and a familiarity with construction, installation, and maintenance procedures.
Using CAD techniques, prepares engineering and construction drawings for projects where only minimal information and very rough sketches are provided.
Selects design procedures and prepares preliminary designs for engineers' approval.
Performs design tasks that require the application of fundamental engineering concepts and formulas. Assignments may include developing minor design elements that have not been clearly defined in the layouts or sketches.
Mentors and provides guidance to junior staff, helping them understand CAD techniques, design principles, and project requirements.
Promotes model-based design concepts that are in-line with VHB initiatives, while learning, fully understanding, and applying VHB standards and, when required, client-prescribed CAD standards.
Reviews vendor prints for conformance with contract specifications.
Coordinates drafting efforts for projects.
Performs routine checking and/or verification tasks.
May interface with other departments, clients, and engineers on design projects.
Supports project engineers with related design tasks (e.g., writing procedures and specifications, compiling and computing engineering data, estimating).
Participates in professional and personal development aligned with career goals.
Performs all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and company policies and procedures.

Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.

The role of a Project Engineer with our Water Team is a dynamic position well suited to an individual who is good at managing multiple tasks and deadlines and working with multi-disciplinary teams. The candidate may be working independently on smaller projects or providing support to a team of professionals on larger projects. Our group is involved in a wide range of sewer and watermain of both large and small diameter systems including open cut construction, rehabilitation, relining, trenchless and tunneling projects.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Typical projects or design tasks may include the design of sanitary, storm, and watermain projects and overland flow / civil site plan design projects. Manages project technical tasks including completing design work, calculations, writing specifications and technical reports on a wide range of civil infrastructure projects generally involving sanitary & storm sewer and watermain design, pump stations, stormwater management/drainage plans.
- Coordinates design and report deliverable packages for submission to clients and/or approval authorities.
- Coordinate with the Project Manager and attend meetings with the client, team members and sub-consultants.
- Understands and implements industry standards and manuals as well as client and regulatory agencies standards and requirements.
- Assist in the preparation of engineering project documents, client presentations, client contact and communication pertaining to specific project deliverables.
- Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure compatibility with the design intent.
- Prepare engineering documents and contract documents by developing construction specifications, plans and schedules.
- Assist in the review of shop drawings and submittals, responds to request for information, prepares site observation reports, and performs other contract administration tasks.
- Participate in basic cost estimating under the direction of technical leaders to support engineering projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned by senior engineering staff.
- All other duties as required and assigned.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Demonstrated efficient task management and technical execution of assigned tasks on multiple concurrent projects.
- Broad, general understanding of many relevant areas of municipal engineering and site development design with respect to materials as well as industry standards.
- General understanding of various construction means and methods and their disturbance impacts on the project site.
- Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of design and construction codes.
- Strong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
- Proficient with of Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD Civil 3D. Basic understanding of Bentley Microstation is a plus.
- Developing cooperative skills in working efficiently within a team.
- Must have good driving record, and valid driver's license.
- Strong presentation and communication skills.
Education and Experience
- Education: Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
- Experience: Minimum of five+ years of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience
- Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or ability to successfully obtain within twelve (12) months.

**Pay Range:**
- Locations in VT, & Various CA, NY Areas - Min Salary $ 88,300.00 - Max Salary $ 128,000.00
- Locations in WA, DC & Various CA, MA areas - Min Salary $ 107,300.00 - Max Salary $ 155,500.00
**Pay Transparency:** In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.

Purpose
Perform all levels of mechanical (HVAC) design including the development of construction documents.
Responsibilities
Leadership and Direction
* Receive broad guidance relating to overall key objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters and general parameters for execution. Receive direction as needed, and especially on highly complex assignments. Independently apply extensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields. Review work produced by staff for quality assurance.
At the Operational and Company Level
* Actively market the firm's capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships with existing clients.
* Serve as a mentor, resource, and trainer for DesignEngineers.
* Represent project team in client communications and resolutions.
Do the Work
* Design complex mechanical systems in accordance with current code requirements and sound engineering principles.
* Responsible for more complex tasks and/or designs within project assignments.
* Apply broad knowledge of engineering principles and procedures.
* Oversee designs through project construction/completion.
* Communicate effectively with engineers, project manager, and the client.
* Conduct field observations visits to accurately document the existing field conditions.
* Organize/prioritize multiple tasks to complete the design in a sequential efficient manner.
* Accurately produce the project construction documents to meet milestone schedules within a predetermined hourly budget.
* Assist in developing construction cost estimates for mechanical systems.
* Attend coordination and design meetings, as needed.
* Define and determine project specifications and budget construction cost estimating.
* Address comments from clients, AHJ's & other review authorities; adjust designs accordingly.
* If directed, review all project related construction administrative items (shop drawings, RFI's, change order proposals).
* Work within established project budgets.
* Possess and continue to develop a working knowledge of all codes applicable to the discipline.
* Possess and continue to develop a working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit software.
