VHB has an immediate opening for a Mid-Atlantic Energy Market Leader to help grow our energy market across Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia. The ideal candidate will possess deep knowledge of the electric, natural gas, nuclear, and renewable energy sectors, along with well-established relationships with public- and private-sector clients at the decision-making level throughout VHB's Mid-Atlantic region.
In this role, the Mid-Atlantic Energy Market Leader will support the development of marketing strategies aimed at new market penetration and client retention. They will also manage key client relationships and oversee energy projects across the region. This senior-level position requires a demonstrated ability to drive business development, lead multidisciplinary teams, manage complex projects, and mentor staff.
The successful candidate will collaborate closely with VHB's Corporate Energy Evolution Practice (EEP) to help advance enterprise-wide initiatives, and work with corporate, regional, and state leadership on strategic pursuits that drive company-wide impact.

Responsibilities
Conduct market research and analysis; collaborate with the Corporate Energy Market Leader and regional leadership to define vision and strategy for the Mid-Atlantic energy market
Lead and develop a dynamic team of energy professionals
Identify and pursue new business opportunities; prepare compelling, winning proposals
Set the strategic direction for the energy market in the region
Partner with the Regional Marketing Director on go/no-go decisions and teaming strategies for strategic pursuits

Bachelor's degree in environmental science, biology, engineering, planning, or a related physical science discipline (Master's degree highly preferred)
15+ years of relevant professional experience, focused on environmental and engineering services to energy market clients in the Mid-Atlantic region
PE license or AICP certification and/or other relevant environmental certifications related to the energy market
Strong understanding of routing, siting, and permitting for electric transmission and natural gas industry in the Mid-Atlantic preferred
Demonstrated experience with renewable energy sectors in the Mid-Atlantic such as utility-scale solar, distributed solar, on/offshore wind, battery energy storage systems (BESS), geothermal, and renewable natural gas
Experience managing teams and developing strategic frameworks for sustainable growth in the energy market
Strong collaboration skills and willingness to travel
The base salary range for this position is $185,000 - $270,00 for the Washington, DC location. This offer is determined based on a number of job-related factors including internal comparators, skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities and geographic location. Responsibilities
Develop a strong understanding of Dewberry's experience, staff, and client relationships applicable to the dams practice
Work with national, regional, and local market and operations leadership to develop and execute a growth strategy for Dewberry's national dams practice.
Leverages existing local, regional, and national client and partner relationships to strategically expand and grow our dam portfolio.
Helps teams mine work through existing client connections and contracts.

Keeps informed of new methods and developments affecting the dams and water resources business and recommends new practices or changes to internal programs.
Recommends and assists in recruiting of key staff to support growth of the dams practice consistent with the growth strategy.
Mentors staff in both client relationship development and project delivery.
Supports client identification, positioning, proposal preparation, and delivery of dam and water resources projects aligned with the growth strategy.
Develops statement of qualifications, detailed proposals, project execution plans, and contracts to include project understanding, scope of work, project approaches, pricing, schedule, terms and conditions, and performs contract negotiations.
Ensures quality of own work and the work of others, while maintaining budget and schedule.
Reviews operational procedures to ensure compliance with applicable company policies and performance measures.

Required Skills & Required Experience

A minimum of 10 years of project and client management experience.
A strong background and engineering skillset related to geotechnical or structural engineering focused on dam design and rehabilitation
Successful track record of building client relationships in the dams market, with a reputation for being highly responsive and delivering quality work.
A successful track record of managing project scope, schedule and budget along with project teams.
Proven experience in the planning, design and construction of dam infrastructure.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong client management and business development skills.
Strong leadership qualities and ability to coach and mentor staff.

Responsibilities
Lead water/wastewater process mechanical design projects for public utility clients.
Lead the planning phase of projects while interfacing and coordinating with other engineering disciplines, technicians, inspectors, and permitting specialists.
Contribute to the continued growth of our National Water Market Segment through performing business development and client management activities, including proposal preparation and client interaction through active participation in professional associations.
Effectively understand and communicate project expectations to the project team and client.
Conduct QA and QC reviews of other projects.
Provide technical assistance and mentoring of junior staff.
Employ earned value management principles to prepare and monitor project work plans, schedules, and budgets.
Expand technical knowledge and professional network by attending seminars, workshops, and conferences, reviewing professional publications, and actively participating in State and/or National professional associations through committee involvement and technical presentations.
Required Skills & Required Experience
Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering. Master's degree preferred.
A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in the water/wastewater field.
Thorough knowledge and ability to apply theories, principles, concepts, and practices of civil and environmental engineering to the planning of water, wastewater, and reclaimed water conveyance and treatment systems.
A successful track record of managing projects, including scope, schedule, and budget.
A successful track record in managing clients and developing new business.
P.E. in New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, DC, North Carolina, Florida, South Carolina or the ability to obtain them through reciprocity within one year of the start date.
Must have proven and strong verbal and written communication skills.
