VHB's Structures group is seeking a Senior Technical Bridge/QC engineer to expand our structural practice/capabilities across the footprint. In this senior technical role, you'll be an integral part of the planning, analysis, design, and detailing of bridge and other transportation related structural projects, from railroad to highway, as well as mentoring our structural team.
In this position, you would serve in a lead role overseeing the technical design of structural engineering projects in our bridge and structures group. The role will include oversight and mentoring our engineering staff on best practices for planning, analysis, design, and detailing of bridge and other transportation related structural projects.
Responsibilities
Oversees the technical design of structural engineering projects
Directs and mentors team members in the development of design plans, technical oversight, specifications, design calculations, load ratings, cost estimates, reports, final bid packages, etc.
Performs quality reviews of team members work for accuracy and to ensure that the production of plans, specifications, reports, and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements
Manages, develops, organizes, and implements structural planning, analysis, preliminary and final design document preparation for bridge-focused transportation projects

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in Boston/Watertown, MA is $170,000-230,000 and the position located in Worcester, MA is $160,000-220,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.

In this position, you will serve an important role as the team leader in the planning and execution of bridge inspections while leading a team of inspection team members. Tasks would include supervising the development of field notes, assembling record documents, and generating inspection reports upon completion of the inspection. Work will also include communicating with clients, state and government agencies, and abutters to coordinate access and general inspection activities. The work would involve a mix of office and fieldwork. Minimum of 5 years of experience in transportation asset management, with direct involvement in developing or contributing to TAMPs for state DOTs.

**Job Description**
The Environmental Business Line of AECOM is seeking a Hazardous Building Material/Industrial Hygiene Project Manager for immediate employment with the Northeast department of the EHS & Air Practice. This candidate is expected to report to the Boston, MA, Chelmsford, MA, or Manchester, NH office.
The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate at least 8 years of experience performing and managing building hazardous material (asbestos, lead paint, etc.) surveys, abatement oversight, and design and/or industrial hygiene projects. This is anticipated to be a seller/doer role, combining technical project execution with business development. On the business development side, responsibilities will include identifying and pursuing new business opportunities, developing client relationships, and securing contracts (both internally and externally). This dual role requires a balance of technical expertise, project management skills, and business acumen to successfully grow the business while delivering exceptional service to clients.
The job responsibilities for this position will include but are not limited to:
+ Managing and/or self-performing a wide range of hazardous building material and industrial hygiene projects for both private and public-sector clients
+ Collaborating with other licensed/certified professionals and technical/regulatory specialists on hazardous building material and industrial hygiene projects. These projects are expected to include survey and investigation work, abatement/remediation design, and abatement/remediation.
+ Provide technical and/or regulatory leadership for hazardous building material and industrial hygiene projects throughout New England, the US, and internationally.
+ Develop proposals, including work scope, budgets and schedules for hazardous building material survey/design/abatement and other industrial hygiene projects.
+ Manage or provide review of technical work and field activities, including performing oversight of projects to confirm work is being done in accordance with the contracted scope of work, budget, schedule and regulatory/industry standards.
+ Review, coordinate or prepare written reports, work plans, and technical memorandum; analyze data and develop supported conclusions.
+ Work collaboratively with other teams within the EHS department, Environment business line, and across AECOM's other internal business lines.
+ Proactively identify opportunities to increase project efficiencies and add value to client service offerings.

Your Opportunity
As a Mechanical Engineer, your role in our professional consulting services team is to work independently on multidisciplinary projects of various complexity as a discipline leader, through all phases of a project lifecycle. You are responsible for leading the design of HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems on municipal water treatment plants, pumping stations, wastewater treatment plants, hydroelectric power plants, and private industrial water applications in different locations across North America. Your Key Responsibilities
* Lead the design of HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems for various projects from preliminary design through bid and construction phases.
* Develop basis of design reports (BODR) and technical memorandums for small-to- medium size projects, setting criteria for following design stages.
* Develop design documents including drawings, specifications, and opinion of probable construction costs (OPCC).
* Respond to RFIs, review submittals and shop drawings, and attend construction site visits for design compliance.
* Develop HVAC calculations including building cooling and heating load calculations, air distribution system sizing, and hydronic distribution system sizing.
* Develop Plumbing calculations including domestic water, sanitary waste, and storm water systems sizing.
* Apply design codes and standards based on the project needs.
* Coordinate design with other design disciplines throughout the life of a project.
* Assist with mentoring engineers in training (EIT) to develop and strengthen their skills and technical abilities.
* Travel to job sites in your state of residence and other states (5%)
Your Capabilities and Credentials
* In-depth understanding of HVAC engineering fundamentals such as psychrometric chart, refrigeration cycle and heat transfer.
* Experience in designing HVAC and Plumbing systems. Fire Protection design is a plus.
