Tasks would include supervising the development of field notes, assembling record documents, and generating inspection reports upon completion of the inspection. Work will also include communicating with clients, state and government agencies, and abutters to coordinate access and general inspection activities. The work would involve a mix of office and fieldwork. Managing inspection equipment with a sufficient budget to properly outfit inspection teams with the latest gear Mentoring younger staff Participate in the growth of the inspection practice across the VHB footprint Skills & Abilities Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces and adjacent to live highway and railroad traffic Familiarity with MBTA, MassDOT, AASHTO, and AREMA inspection requirements Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills Proactive and self-motivated, with excellent attention to detail and quality Strong organizational and time management skills Enthusiasm to learn, seek out opportunities, and take responsibility Ability and willingness to work overnight when required for specific access requirements on roadways and on ROW tracks. Experience with vertical lift equipment, under-bridge inspection trucks, and rope access credentials are a plus Qualifications 8+ years of bridge inspection experience required PE license B.S. in Civil Engineering (structural emphasis preferred) NHI/FHWA Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges course preferred NHI/FHWA Fracture Critical (NSTM) course preferred Valid driver's license Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in Boston/Watertown, MA is $115,000-170,000 and the position located in Worcester, MA is $110,000-165,000. The successful candidate will become part of an exciting and dynamic structures team and will have opportunities to contribute to large projects throughout North America. Your Key Responsibilities - Oversee design and preparation of contract documents for new bridges and rehabilitation of existing bridges - Perform load rating analysis of existing bridges - Perform design calculations, drawings, and details for various bridge design projects - Mentor and monitor junior structural engineers - Review shop drawings produced by fabricators and detailers, calculations performed by other engineers, coordinate with design team, site visits to address site issues and verify existing conditions, and respond to request for information - Assist with the management and administration of projects, including budget tracking, developing staffing requirements, coordinating quality reviews, and assuring compliance with Health, Safety, Security and Environment fundamentals - Coordinate with clients as required to assure projects are delivered on time and on budget Your Capabilities and Credentials - Licensed Professional Engineer with license in the State of CT - Proficiency in STAAD, CSI, SAP, AASHTOWare BrR and other structural analysis and design software - Ability to develop drawings using AutoCAD and Open Bridge Modeler, including conformance to CTDOT Digital Design Environment - Understanding of design codes and agency standards such as AASHTO, ASCE, AISC and ACI.. - Strong oral and written communication skills - Strong leadership and team building skills, which are essential to meet the expectations of this challenging position Education and Experience - Bachelor's degree or Equivalent, Graduate Degree highly desired. - Minimum 5 years of experience in the structural design and analysis of bridges and other transportation structures. - Professional Engineer in Connecticut required Position will primarily work in an office setting; may require some field work depending on project needs. Your Key Responsibilities * Manages project technical tasks including completing design work, calculations, writing specifications and technical reports on a wide range of civil infrastructure projects generally involving sanitary & storm sewer, water main design, pump stations, wastewater resource recovery facilities, water treatment facilities, and stormwater management/drainage plans. * Coordinates design and report deliverable packages for submission to clients and/or approval authorities. * Coordinate with the Project Manager and attend meetings with the client, team members and sub-consultants. * Understands and implements industry standards and manuals as well as client and regulatory agencies standards and requirements. * Assist in the preparation of engineering project documents, client presentations, client contact and communication pertaining to specific project deliverables. * Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure compatibility with the design intent. * Prepare engineering documents and contract documents by developing construction specifications, plans and schedules. * Evaluates, selects, specifies, and engineers process mechanical systems or products for a project. * Conducts quality assurance and quality control on own projects. * Assist in the review of shop drawings and submittals, responds to request for information, prepares site observation reports, and performs other contract administration tasks. * Participate in basic cost estimating under the direction of technical leaders to support engineering projects. * Perform other duties as assigned by senior engineering staff. * Involvement in regional industry professional associations. * All other duties as required and assigned. Your Capabilities and Credentials * Demonstrated efficient task management and technical execution of assigned tasks on multiple concurrent projects. * Broad, general understanding of many relevant areas of municipal engineering, hydraulics, and process mechanical systems design with respect to materials as well as industry standards. * General understanding of various construction means and methods and their disturbance impacts on the project site. * Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of design and construction codes. * Strong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications. * Proficient with of Microsoft Office Suite.
