Vanderbilt University Medical Center's Department of Nursing Strategic Programs is dedicated to serving the VUMC Health System. The Vanderbilt Medical Center Staffing Collaborative supports nurse staffing needs as a system-wide resource. The Staffing Collaborative has created a new structure that allows alternative nursing employment at VUMC. Like a travel nurse, the Staffing Collaborative will allow Nursing staff to work 13-week assignments within a specific unit at VUMC. The Department of Nursing Strategic Programs and the Staffing Collaborative provide a new and exciting approach to nursing in a patient-focused, safe, and efficient manner. The assignment comes with premium pay and optional health benefits.
The Staffing Collaborative's primary responsibility is to ensure coverage for the most significant scheduling needs across the organization. Assignments may necessitate working weekends and holidays. Minimum requirements will be consistent with the expectations for full-time staff within each specific unit.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Utilization Management- Utilization Management: Independently working more complex prospective, retrospective and concurrent review and processing of authorization requests for inpatient admissions, outpatient procedures, homecare services and durable medical equipment. Generates required correspondence, including denial letters, based on medical necessity and administrative review process while maintaining productivity and turnaround time.
Quality- Work with management team to ensure 100% correct letter and less than 2% error rate are met. Uses independent judgement to ensure templates are compliant with Federal, State and Regulatory requirements. Identify and refer appropriate members for care management and quality issues to Quality Improvement. Recommends process improvements and provides documentation for processes to the department.
Discharge Planning- Document, identify and communicate with Health Partners, Care Managers and Discharge Planners to establish safe discharge planning needs and coordination of care in a timely and cost-effective manner. Interfaces with physician reviewers to optimize the written communication to members and referring providers.
Compliance- Meet third-party payer standards and requirements. Maintains knowledge of changes as impacts regulatory/accrediting compliance for reimbursement. Assist Director in the reporting of information as set forth in the PI plan, i.e., appropriateness of admissions and continued stay reviews including when known, the over and underutilization of resources. Participate in interdepartmental meetings to promote knowledge, troubleshoot, problem shoot and resolve issues as relates to utilization management. Serves as an educational and communications resource to Administration, Department heads, physicians and other necessary groups regarding the utilization management activity and process. Keep the department manager informed of problems, as necessary.
Leadership- Provide guidance to and assist with oversight of non-clinical staff, including training and education of Specialist I. Act as a primary point of contact for the Utilization Management team. Answers questions and provide guidance for difficult reviews and processes.

We care for adult patients ranging in age from young adults to geriatrics who are being treated for elective spinal surgeries.
Our patients are unique because they have a variety of spinal disorders with several teams working in collaboration to provide high-quality care throughout their stay usually lasting from 24 hours to 3-4 days.
Shift
This is a full-time night shift position. The shift if 7:00am - 7:00pm, three times per week for a total of 36 hours per week, including some weekends.

Unit Summary
We are located on the 8th floor of Vanderbilt University Hospital (VUH).
The environment on our unit is exciting, dynamic, and team oriented.
We care for adult patients aged 18 to 100+ who are being treated for post-lung transplant procedures after transfer from the CVICU, post-lung transplant patients being admitted for complications, pulmonary-hypertension, post-endoscopic lung volume reduction procedures, interstitial lung disease exacerbations, patients listed for lung transplant requiring hospital admission, and ECMO graduates.
Our patient population is unique because of the complicated range of conditions that require a multifaceted approach to our patient care
