Document maintenance and repairs. + Maintain department records, reports and files as required. + Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs. + Consistently provide accurate and complete hand-off communication to any healthcare provider according to hospital policy. + Attend 80% of all department meetings and required to review and initial all department minutes missed. + Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. Position Summary: The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible and accountable for all functions of the sterile processing department, under the guidance of the sterile processing department supervisors and manager. This position is responsible for working independently and with team members to ensure that all surgical instrumentation are properly decontaminated, assembled, inspected, packaged, sterilized, high level disinfected, marked for repair and placed in a proper repair location, and communicate incomplete trays and missing items to management and OR immediately. All instruments must be distributed, tracked and stored in a safe, secure, aseptic and timely manner throughout the hospital and clinics. Immediate-use steam sterilization, tray turnovers between surgical cases and releasing sterilized loads from the department must be performed observing standard practice. Each team member will be qualified to train others as assigned and serve as a front-line resource to sterile processing customers. The Sterile Process Tech is part of the SEIU-113 Union - SEIU will offer competitive wages for any prior experience in Sterile Processing or related fields.     The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for all task-based Central Services activities. Sterile Processing activities include, but are not limited to: decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation, assembly and delivery of surgical and interventional procedure case carts, paring and replenishment of materials, and receiving and distribution of Sterile Processing supplies. The Sterile Processing Technician must be able to decontaminate and assemble surgical instrumentation using an automated Instrument Tracking System. Uses an electronic handheld ordering device and works with the Materials Coordinator to par, order, and replenish soft supplies in the surgical core, and CS packs storage area. Assembles the surgical case cart from a predetermined preference list; the case cart includes surgical instrumentation; peel packs, soft supplies, packs, and implants. The Sterile Processing Technician is accountable for all activities to which s/he is assigned during their shift, to include: quality and accuracy of instrument decontamination, assembly, sterilization, case cart assembly, and supply par and replenishment. Selects appropriate method of sterilization, verify parameters, and documents sterility accurately and appropriately. Complies with all department specific policies and procedures. Identifies and reports supply, equipment, and procedure problems to the Operations Supervisor or Manager. Works with and under the guidance of the Lead Central Services Technician, Central Services Coordinator, and Materials Coordinator to prioritize tasks in order to support clinical operations effectively and efficiently. May be asked to perform as Lead Technician; this includes the assignment, training, and allocation of staffing resources to meet the needs of clinical operations. Must be able to demonstrate performance of the activities and tasks of the Central Services Technician proficiently and comfortably. Expected to fulfill varying weekend coverage. Performance Criteria: Sterilization of Medical Devices (Steam Sterilization - Autoclave) Demonstrates competency in performing sterilization activities prior to working independently. Unpacking, checking, and stocking new equipment, instruments, and devices. Ensures sterile processing supplies delivered are appropriate if usual stocked item is substituted by materials management. Distribute medical and surgical supplies from sterile processing areas to other areas within the clinic as needed. Monitor, interpret, and document results of indicators Inserts sterilization indicators inside all packages. Monitor, interpret, and document results of physical, chemical, and biological indicators for all types of sterilizers used in the sterile processing areas. Monitoring temperature and humidity conditions within processing area and areas where sterile supplies are stored for use in sterile procedures. Maintaining accurate logging records. Ability to effectively communicate and report findings associated with failed quality assurance activities Demonstrates age-appropriate skills in completing assigned patient activities Transports patients in a safe and timely fashion. Collects specimens as assigned using correct policy and procedure for collection, labeling, and transporting specimens to the lab.
