The Vascular Sonographer is responsible for patient care performing daily Vascular diagnostic testing. This position will fulfill the objective(s) as put forth by the TCI Division of Sparrow Hospital.
Essential Duties:
This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.
* Verifies patient identity prior to the examination, reviews the patient chart and history form, ease patient apprehension by thoroughly explaining the procedure and answering questions.
* Preforms vascular testing including, Carotid Duplex, UE and LE arterial, Abdominal studies, Venous Doppler and imaging, Ankle-Brachial indices, assists with vein ablations..
* Completes all documentation in the GEMMS system.
* Reviews each examination for technical accuracy, recognizes significant cardiac conditions which require immediate intervention
* Continuing education for vascular technicians.
* Restock and order supplies.
* Clean and maintain all equipment and report any equipment malfunctions.
* Projects as assigned
Job Requirements
General Requirements BCLS RDCS or CCI Registered. Valid Michigan drivers license Must pass the vascular technologist registry exam and the echo registry exams through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers within 2 years of hire date OR obtain RVS certification through Cardiovascular Credentialing International within 2 years of hire date. Work Experience Minimum of one year experience in all phases of vascular testing including: carotid duplex, Abdominal, UE and LE arterial, venous doppler and imaging, ankle-brachial indices. EMR/PACS Experience preferred Education High school diploma or GED. Graduate from an ultrasound school with a cardiac US degree Specialized Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of computer systems, programs and applications. Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job

This is a triple modality position (general, vascular, and echo). A successful general/vascular candidate with general/vascular credentials will begin cardiac/echo sonography training on site.
Performs all general and/or vascular procedures/studies under the direction of the Radiologist. Communicates results of diagnostic examinations to the interpreting physician.
Competently operates ultrasound equipment to perform general, vascular and/or cardiac procedures/studies. Accurately differentiates between normal and pathologic findings.
Reviews patient's medical record to obtain necessary clinical information including patient history, lab results, and physician orders, obtains necessary clinical information from patients, and compares requisitions to physicians' orders to ensure exam accuracy.
Positions patient and selects proper transducer and technical factors for accurate ultrasound procedures. Adjusts factors to attain the appropriate images. Ensures safety, mental and physical comfort of patient.
Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images.
Accurately identifies and labels images identifying patient name, medical record unit (MRU) number, and location or position of scan on all images.
Maintains records in accordance with various regulatory agencies and enters patient and study information into the radiology information system, and documents billing codes of procedures performed to ensure accurate patient charges.
