Position Summary:
The Cardiac Sonographer will perform a range of echocardiographic studies to diagnose a variety of vascular diseases, illnesses, and disorders under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager. Examinations may include Transthoracic, Exercise, and Pharmacologic Stress Echocardiograms.
Competencies:
Education: Associates Degree in Cardiovascular Vascular Technology acquired from an Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Program (CAAHEP) - accredited diagnostic ultrasound program required.
Knowledge: Knowledge of preparing patients
Skills: Sonographic skills are necessary to obtain and document a complete examination or research protocol. Ability to use on invasive echocardiography testing equipment.
Required Licensure, Certification, Etc.: Registry eligible according to the guidelines established by The American Registry Of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) NOTE: Any Echocardiography Technicians must obtain registry upon employment. Must be able to obtain ACLS certification within 6 months of hire.
Work Experience: Six months of clinical scanning experience in a ambulatory care based environment. Scanning performed within an approved clinical internship will be considered adequate experience.
Shift: Full-Time (40 hours per week), Day Shift. No weekend or holiday work is required.
Salary Range: Minimum 31.45 per hour - Maximum 51.91 per hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.

**Responsibilities***
* Perform vascular diagnostic procedures independently utilizing ultrasound and other ancillary devices.
* Use knowledge and skills to record and adapt vascular exams to obtain anatomical and pathological diagnostic information and images as appropriate for individual disease processes.
* Use independent judgement to acquire the optimum diagnostic information for each examination performed.
* Perform carotid, peripheral, venous, peripheral arterial, physiological arterial, visceral, aortic, TCD, hemodialysis access, TCOM, venous insufficiency, intraoperative, bypass, and other exams following established protocols as outlined by IAC.

The Cardiac Sonographer is responsible for performing echocardiographic techniques/procedures which assist physicians in the diagnosis of medical conditions in patients. Obtains the following diagnostic echocardiographic recordings or images following established procedures:
Echocardiography utilizing echo contrast for improving difficult images in conjunction with other modalities. Cardiac ultrasound following established procedure. Stress echocardiography including stress monitoring, obtaining pre and post exercise images and processing of digital images for physician review.
Explains procedure to patient and gives necessary instruction. Prepares patient for procedure including vital signs, attaching monitoring equipment and preparing diagnostic equipment as necessary. Reviews the patient record for test indication and obtains clinical information pertinent to the test. Reviews patient EMR and verifies correct order before initiating test. Reviews patient record to obtain information relevant to testing which may include, but not limited to relevant diagnosis, history and physical, patient height/weight, EKG and other lab data. Performs the appropriate assessment using patient interview, auscultation, palpation and documents appropriate data.
Recognizes and corrects technical problems with technique or equipment which may affect results, abnormal pathology or results which may require additional or modified testing or imaging for optimal evaluation, and serious abnormalities which might require immediate reporting to the requesting physician. Refers any questions regarding appropriateness of therapy or testing to the Lead Cardiac Sonographer or the requesting physician. Completes documentation of testing resulting in proper charging and recording of test.
Maintains supplies and equipment following established procedure, including cleaning and scheduled maintenance.
Becomes involved and assists with new procedures created by new technology or responsibilities. Studies suggested reference material to new procedures.
Education
Graduate of a 2-4-year Allied Health training program required.
Experience
Two (2) years training experience in cardiac sonography (echocardiography) preferred.
Recent graduates of accredited sonography programs are encouraged to apply.
Certification & Licensure
Requires registry by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (ACS).
BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart 'Healthcare Provider' (HCP) - AHA approved required. New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation.
Qualifications
Must have the physical, mental and technical skills necessary to perform diagnostic testing of adult cardiovascular patients.

Job Summary and QualificationsAs a Vascular Sonographer, you would perform non-invasive ultrasound procedures while recognizing sonographic characteristics of normal and abnormal tissue, structures and blood flow. You will adjust scanning techniques to optimize image quality and spectral waveform, perform measurements and calculations according to laboratory protocol.
You would analyze sonographic findings throughout the course of the examination to complete the comprehensive exam and provide sufficient data to the physician to render a final diagnosis.
Initiate additional scanning techniques or administer contrast agents as indicated by the examination and according to established laboratory policy and procedure.
You would notify appropriate personnel when procedural findings are significant and or patient condition is of concern.
What qualifications you will need:Graduate from an accredited Cardiovascular Technology or Nursing Program
Basic Cardiac Life Support, or BCLS Instructor must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
