Vascular surgeons must be sensitive to the needs of a diverse group of patients afflicted with vascular and circulatory disorders. Vascular surgery is a surgical specialty focusing the arteries and veins that carry blood through the body. Many diseases and conditions affect the vascular system, including coronary heart disease, arteriosclerosis, deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. Vascular surgeons perform operations to repair damaged arteries and veins and to remove blockages from arteries and veins clogged with plaque or blood clots. In addition to performing procedures, Vascular surgeons oversee and coordinate the efforts of large teams of surgeons and nurses in the operating theater. Vascular surgeons interpret results of diagnostic tests including but not limited to magnetic resonance imaging, CT scans, balloon angioplasty, stenting, sclerotherapy and other minimally-invasive catheter procedures to diagnose patients.
Vascular surgeons require excellent hand-eye coordination and concentration. They also keep up with new discoveries by reading medical journals and attending academic conferences. They provide leadership, coordination and administration to this service line, for the Garnet Health System. Qualifications:

Minimum Experience:
Professional clinical experience in Vascular surgical procedures reflective of the scope of privileges requested with proof of completion of an ACGME or AOA-accredited residency or clinical fellowship
Required Certification/Registration:
NYS Medical License, valid and unrestricted
Board Certification in Vascular Surgery, achieved within five years of the completion of training, is required
BLS & ATLS certification required. PALS & ACLS Certification preferred.
DEA Certification, valid and unrestricted
New York State Education Department Approved Child Abuse Training Certification
Physical Requirements:
Must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform the tasks normally associated with the practice of internal medicine or family medicine.
