Carle Foundation vascular technician job description

Performs diagnostic general radiological procedures utilizing various imaging equipment to assist in diagnosis of disease and injuries. This may include Cat Scan and C-arm units. Performs general, OB and some vascular Ultrasound. May also perform breast Ultrasound. Responsible for screening, scheduling, and directing patients to appropriate locations and services within the Imaging Department. Maintains working knowledge of all Radiology and Vascular / Cardiac U/S exams and procedures. Assists with the training of new staff. Proficient in scheduling all Radiology and Vascular / Cardiac U/S exams. Must know all preps for each Radiology and Vascular / Cardiac U/S exams and procedures.

Performs routine and complex sonography imaging by acquiring and processing patient exams in accordance with accreting bodies and/or manufacturer guidelines and as outlined in department protocols. Selects proper sonography protocols and techniques to obtain optimal data. Reviews cases with the radiologist when appropriate. Reviews labs and patient history to perform correct exam.

Responsible to review radiology orders for completeness and accuracy. Reviews patient history and supporting clinical data for medical necessity. Takes steps to acquire additional information if needed from the patient, ordering provider and/or Radiologist.

Demonstrates acceptable imaging quality standards by critiquing positioning, technical factors and alignment. Reviews patient data for accuracy, quality and completeness.

Transfers and verifies image data in PACS and other digital and reporting systems providing necessary medical history and information for Radiologist interpretation. Utilizes the web servers and email systems to send exams for preliminary readings after hours.

Responsible for maintaining imaging equipment and workplace environment including maintaining supply inventories and orderliness of work area. Recognizes malfunctions and service needs and reports service needs in a timely manner.

Ensures patient, visitor and environmental safety. Reports safety events immediately including those that are a near miss.

Assists in instruction of students and new staff as necessary. May perform duties of Sono Lead or Imaging Coordinator in his/her absence.

Meets productivity levels as established by department benchmarking. Assists other areas during downtimes so to maintain productivity.

May be required to perform duties of other modalities within the department to which licensers are held by the technologist/sonographer.

Performs vascular sonography in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization.
Work Schedule:
Full Time Flex

Responsibilities:
Reviews patient history and physician's orders. Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation.

When ordered, prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice. Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate.

Prepares equipment and supplies. Selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters. Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment. Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary.

Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s). Analyzes results and identifies issues with the quality of imaging results. Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including re-positioning patient and repeating procedure. Enters, transmits and reports scan results.

Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.

Minimum Required Education: Graduate of an accredited Ultrasound Technologist program.
Required Licensure/Certification: Registered as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or registered as a Technologist (RT) and certified in vascular sonography (VS) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). State licensure if required by law. Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider.
Minimum Experience: Experience is preferred. BLS through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer with card in-hand before start date. BLS or CPR card must be good through sixty days of hire. All life support certification cards must be issued by either the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer. (American Red Cross for the Professional Rescuer is only good upon hire and all renewals will need to be through an American Heart Association sanctioned course.)


The pay range for this position is:
$38.72 - $58.08 / hour
. Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.
