As a key member of a collaborative leadership team-partnering with the Group Vice President (GVP), Regional Operations Directors (RODs), and Regional Technician Director (RTD)-you will play a pivotal role in driving excellence across hospital operations, medical care, Associate engagement, and overall leadership. In this highly influential role, you'll be entrusted with setting the standard for best-in-class medical practices, ensuring the delivery of exceptional patient care, and supporting our veterinarians in doing their best work every day. Working closely with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), you'll guide medical quality, champion innovation, and foster a culture of growth, collaboration, and clinical excellence across your region. Responsibilities: Cultivate current veterinary medical thinking, as well as best practices in patient care, are followed by the medical teams in the region Ensure clients are receiving high-quality medical care for their pets at all hospitals within the region Spend time in each hospital in the designated region(s) to observe medical activities and coach the medical teams both individually and in group settings Use available reports, medical records, and on-site observation to review and improve the quality of diagnostic and treatment skills practiced by each individual doctor and take definitive action when these skills are sub-standard to improve the level of care delivered Evaluate medical equipment and take needed steps to maximize usage as appropriate Manage veterinary board and client complaints that are medically based on notification through resolution Mentor Medical Directors and Associates on improved methods of time management and efficiency, including the proper and efficient use of Technicians, as well as technology Motivate Medical Directors to maintain an “owner mentality” and help ensure that Associate Veterinarians consistently practice VCA standards of medicine Host or present local medical seminars (some of which can include invitations to non-VCA veterinarians in the region) Connect with and support Medical Directors and Associate Veterinarians to cultivate job satisfaction and healthy well-being Minimum Qualifications: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent from an accredited university A minimum of 5 years' practice experience Multi-Unit experience preferred License to practice veterinary medicine Ability to develop a strong working relationship with Medical Director and Associate Veterinarians for each hospital Ability to follow through on implementation and promotion of medical programs instituted by the Chief Medical Officer Ability to deliver, with the ROD, the evaluation of the Medical Director's performance and set the medical goals for the coming year Special Working Conditions: Flexibility in schedule and hours of availability Environment where pets are present 65% travel throughout the regions you support Additional Information Compensation is negotiable based on education, experience, and other relevant credentials.
