Headquartered in Boston, Mass., Veolia North America has more than 10,000 employees working at more than 350 locations across the continent. ************************** Job Description Position Purpose: We are seeking a skilled and motivated Wastewater Plant Operator to oversee the daily operation and maintenance of our wastewater treatment facility. The role includes both inside and outside operations, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, proper use of the filter press, and maintaining the facility's efficiency and safety. Primary Duties/Responsibilities: Inside Operations: Monitor and adjust plant processes using SCADA systems and other control interfaces. Analyze data from flow meters, pressure gauges, and analytical equipment to optimize operations. Perform routine laboratory testing of water samples to ensure compliance with discharge permits. Document plant performance, operational adjustments, and maintenance activities in logs and reports. Outside Operations: Inspect and maintain pumps, valves, clarifiers, aeration tanks, digesters, and other equipment. Collect samples from various points in the treatment process for laboratory testing. Perform general upkeep of the plant grounds, including clearing debris and maintaining access areas. Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and assist with repairs as needed. Filter Press Operations: Operate and maintain the filter press to dewater sludge efficiently. Monitor the feed pressure, cake thickness, and overall performance of the filter press. Clean and perform preventative maintenance on the filter press to ensure consistent operation. Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all local, state, and federal environmental and safety regulations. Respond promptly to emergencies such as equipment failures or environmental incidents. Participate in safety training and contribute to maintaining a safe work environment. Teamwork & Communication: Collaborate with other plant staff to troubleshoot issues and develop operational improvements. Communicate with supervisors about operational status, equipment needs, and maintenance schedules. Train and mentor junior staff or trainees as required. Work Environment: Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor settings, subject to exposure to extreme weather conditions, loud noise, and hazardous materials. Qualifications Education/Experience/Background: High School Diploma/GED is required. A degree in environmental science, engineering, or a related field is a plus. At least 2 years of experience in wastewater treatment or a related field. Familiarity with filter press operations and dewatering processes is strongly preferred. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Proficiency in using computerized systems for monitoring and data analysis. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of mechanical systems, including pumps, motors, and hydraulic systems. Required Certification/Licenses/Training: Valid CA SWRCB Wastewater Operator certification Grade II required Physical Requirements: This position requires standing, walking, climbing, bending, and lifting objects up to 40 lbs. Physical ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including confined spaces and outdoors. Additional Information Pay Range: $37.00 to $50.00 per hour. Some experience in a related position and environment preferred. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Must have the ability to read, write and comprehend English (operational, process, safety and quality instructions). Must have the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations. Must be able to serve rotational 24-hour emergency on-call if required by site. Primary Duties/Responsibilities: Veolia is seeking a qualified Ohio Class III Water Operator to join our team at the City of Springboro's water facilities. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, you will oversee all operations, compliance, and reporting for our comprehensive water infrastructure, including a 7-MGD anthracite multi-media filtration ground treatment plant, elevated water towers, wells, and water booster stations. Our state-of-the-art Water Treatment Plant, completed in September 1999, features advanced iron and manganese removal technology with anthracite and sand filters utilizing an air-assisted backwash system. The facility processes raw water sourced from multiple wells within the Springboro wellfield. May need to work outside in inclement weather conditions and drive company vehicle to perform duties. May serve rotational 24-hour emergency on-call. Possible Work Hazards : May be exposed to possible operations hazards including dust, fumes, toxic and caustic chemicals, heavy machinery, high pressure, hot or cold temperatures, slippery surfaces, water and electrical equipment hazards. Qualifications Education/Experience/Background: Ohio Class III Water Operator High School education or GED with the ability to read, write and comprehend English (operational, process, safety and quality instructions). Associate's degree in a science or technical area strongly preferred. Over five years of experience in a related position and environment with knowledge of the methods, techniques, and practices of water treatment. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Must have the ability to perform basic math equations. Regulatory Knowledge (RCRA, CERCLA), and knowledge of Title V - NESHAPS. Demonstrates ability to mentor, coach and train others to identify cost effective solutions. Must demonstrate ability to use computer programs for preparing work orders, work related reports, charts, graphs and data submittal requirements. Must demonstrate proficiency in the care and use of all site specific, facility required PPE (Personal Protection Equipment), including respirators, gas detectors, confined space equipment, etc). Must consistently demonstrate the ability to operate all machines and equipment meeting or exceeding processing and quality targets under general supervision. Must demonstrate ability to efficiently operate all equipment in the facility which may include pumps, engines, centrifuge, generators, valves, gates, mixers, conveyors, blowers, dryers, chemical feed, odor control, disinfection equipment, vacuum filters, belt presses and measuring devices, testing equipment, material handling equipment. Must have the ability to diagnose process problems regardless of complexity, troubleshoot process control instrumentation equipment and related systems and take corrective action within policy and procedure limitations. Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily. Must be able to serve rotational 24-hour emergency on-call if required by site. Required Certification/Licenses/Training: Ohio Class III Water Operator Must possess a valid driver's license and a safe driving record. Employee Orientation, Departmental Operating Procedures, Safety, OSHA & Quality Training. HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response) Level I and II certification if required by site. Forklift certification if required by site. Team Leader / Supervisory Training. Cross-training if feasible. May perform more advanced functions as part of training and development. Physical Requirements: Amount of time spent - Standing 25%, Walking 75% for as many as five miles per shift. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch and enter confined spaces. May be required to use ladders or stairs. The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (occasionally 60 pounds). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. Requires close visual observation to detect process non-conformance and machine malfunction.
