AT&T is seeking a Lead Member of Technical Staff to advance our Smart Home API and Device Insight APIs. In this critical role, you will architect, build, and scale secure, consumption-based APIs that deliver curated, anonymized, and aggregated device telemetry and performance metrics to internal product and marketing teams, as well as external OEMs and third-party partners. Your work will move us beyond basic reporting to real-time, granular insights into device performance and customer behavior-empowering partners to refine device design, enhance end-user experiences, and unlock new revenue opportunities, all while upholding strict privacy and data security standards. What you'll do: * Architect, develop, and operate Smart Home and Device Insight APIs with high availability, low latency, and versioned lifecycle management. * Deliver curated, anonymized, and aggregated telemetry and performance metrics via secure, consumption-based APIs for internal and external consumers. * Build real-time and batch data pipelines for device telemetry ingestion and processing (e.g., Kafka/Kinesis, Spark/Flink), enabling near real-time insights and dashboards. * Implement privacy-by-design controls, anonymization/aggregation thresholds, encryption, consent/governance enforcement, and secure key management. * Integrate API management, rate limiting, quotas, metering, and usage-based billing, enabling reliable partner consumption and monetization. * Collaborate with product, marketing, security, legal/privacy, and OEM partners to define requirements, prioritize features, and deliver partner-ready capabilities. * Create SDKs, reference implementations, and developer documentation to streamline onboarding for internal teams and external partners. * Establish SLOs/SLAs, monitoring, and observability (logs, metrics, tracing) with automated alerting and robust runbooks. * Conduct performance/load testing, capacity planning, and cost optimization for large-scale device populations. * Drive delivery end-to-end: roadmap, backlog, and release management in an agile environment. What you'll need: * Experience designing, building, and operating partner-facing APIs (REST/GraphQL/gRPC) at scale, including API gateways and developer portals. * Strong software engineering skills in Java, Go, or Python; microservices; containers (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes); CI/CD. * Data engineering proficiency with streaming and batch processing, schema evolution (Avro/Protobuf), and time-series/analytics stores. * Security expertise: OAuth2/OIDC, mTLS, secrets management, tokenization, data anonymization/aggregation, and encryption in transit/at rest. * Solid understanding of networking and device telemetry; familiarity with home gateway/CPE environments and IoT protocols (e.g., TR-069/TR-369 USP, MQTT) is a plus. * Experience implementing usage metering, quotas, and consumption-based billing models. * Excellent problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills; ability to execute in a fast-paced environment. What you'll bring: * 5+ years of relevant experience in software engineering, platform/API development, or data engineering (8+ preferred for lead-level impact). * Proven track record delivering high-scale APIs and data products that meet strict privacy and security requirements. * Hands-on experience with real-time analytics and observability (e.g., OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana). * Demonstrated success enabling partner/OEM integrations and launching developer-facing capabilities. * Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience). * A product mindset and a passion for building secure, reliable, and monetizable platforms.
