Vermillion company history timeline

1862

Vermillion, city, seat (1862) of Clay county, southeastern South Dakota, United States It lies near the confluence of the Vermillion and Missouri rivers, just north of the Nebraska border and about 15 miles (25 km) west of the Iowa border.

1881

A flood in 1881 nearly destroyed the city, which consequently was rebuilt higher on the bluffs.

1889

South Dakota became the 40th state of the union on November 2, 1889.

1959

Our credit union was granted its charter on April 29, 1959, and founded as SUSD Federal Credit Union.

The cost to open an account in 1959 was just 25 cents and a share of ownership was $5.

1964

The credit union's name would be shortened to USD Federal Credit Union in 1964 when 'State' was dropped from USD's name.

1973

1973: Employees of USD-Springfield, the United States government, the State of South Dakota, Clay County, and the City of Vermillion.
