Compensation: $23.00 - $33.00 per hour.

Qualifications:
Veterinary Technician in Alaska with a minimum one-year experience. Credentialed Veterinary Technician preferred, but not required. The ability to function in a fast-paced environment with compassion, efficiency, and flexibility is key to success in this role.
Job duties include, but are not limited to; surgical nursing care to patients through compliance with the attending doctor's orders, assisting with consultations, calculation and administration of medications, in-house lab work sampling and analysis, catheter placement, monitoring and managing patients' comfort, and updating clients on their pet's progress.

The Veterinary Assistant position is responsible for assisting the technicians and doctors with daily care of all Alaska SPCA patients. In addition, the Veterinary Assistant will help the surgical team with invoicing and handling and restraint. This position works closely with customers, clinic veterinarians, other veterinary technicians, and customer service staff. This position is eligible for a $500 signing bonus*.
Essential Job Duties:
Create invoices for surgical patients and prepare medications to be sent home
Dispense medications per veterinarian's order
Perform laboratory tests in house and prepare samples to send out to the lab
Communicate with clients/owners about status of patients as directed by the veterinarian
Assisting in the recovery of animals of animals after surgery
Knowledge and ability to intake and release patients, including delivering post-operative instructions in a competent and friendly manner
Knowledge of vaccine protocols, and how to reconstitute, prepare and administer vaccinations along with microchips
Clean and sterilize surgical instruments/supplies and securely wrap each surgical pack
Recognize and respond appropriately during an emergency, taking directions from a veterinarian or technician along with maintaining competency during CPR procedures
Participate in all mandatory meetings
Collecting deposits and payments, answering client questions in person, on the telephone, and via email
Helping to keep the hospital clean and prevent the spread of diseases by doing laundry, cleaning kennels, sanitizing surgical areas etc.
Follow all written and verbally communicated departmental standard operating procedures
Communicate with clients and assist with rechecks as needed
Restrain cats/dogs properly to ensure the safety of the veterinarian, tech and myself while performing a service
Must exhibit professionalism in behavior and performance at all times by:
Maintaining excellent interpersonal relationship skills in dealing with coworkers

The faculty member appointed to this position will provide advising to prospective and current medical laboratory science students, didactic and laboratory education to students enrolled in the medical laboratory science programs. The program faculty member will be responsible for continued curriculum development, and academic expansion of the program.
This is a dynamic teaching position providing both lecture and robust student labs in areas of Immunology, Molecular Diagnostics, and Transfusion Medicine. Working with current faculty, you will also engage students outside the classroom in research, community outreach, and professional development.
The individual will have strong clinical bench laboratory skills supported by an advanced degree in clinical laboratory medicine, including Immunology. This position requires strong communication skills and the ability to actively engage students and prospective students on the Medical Laboratory Science profession. Strong networking skills with clinical partners in the healthcare field.
Minimum Qualifications:
•Minimum five years' generalist experience in clinical practice within the past ten years.

What We're Looking For
At least 1 year of veterinary technician experience or 2 years of veterinary assistant experience
Credentialed Technician (LVT/CVT/RVT) preferred, not required
Organized, compassionate, and calm under pressure
Responsibilities:
Treat each patient and customer with the highest level of compassion & care.
Perform basic to intermediate nursing care tasks, patient monitoring, and treatments.
Use understanding of common diseases and conditions, physical assessment, and monitoring parameters to triage incoming patients accurately.
Administer subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intravenous medications and understand potential adverse effects of medications.
Contribute as an active and engaged team member to incoming outpatient care and ongoing inpatient care.
Be trained to perform all aspects of CPR as a RECOVER Certified Rescuer properly.
Collect samples and perform diagnostic tests including in-house & point-of-care tests and diagnostic imaging.
Administer, monitor, and maintain patients under sedation.
Perform vascular access techniques
Perform diagnostic techniques
Conduct treatments using clinical decision-making skills according to treatment plans.
Aid in managing patient care workload to ensure the patients are receiving uncompromised care.
Coach and guide veterinary assistants and veterinary technicians to perform clinical tasks to maintain standards of care and encourage growth.
Collaborate and share knowledge with teammates to ensure optimal patient care.
Assist in effective sanitation of the hospital.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the lead or Manager.
