Responsibilities
As a Veterinary Assistant, your duties will include:
Assisting veterinarians and technicians during exams, treatments, and surgical procedures.
Providing compassionate care and handling for patients of all sizes and temperaments.
Administering medications and vaccinations as directed by the veterinary team.
Preparing and maintaining exam rooms, surgical suites, and equipment.
Performing diagnostic tests, such as lab work and radiography, under supervision.
Educating clients on basic pet care and post-treatment instructions.
Maintaining accurate patient records and ensuring a clean and organized clinic environment.
Qualifications
Experience: Prior experience as a Veterinary Assistant is required. Prefer 3 years or more experience.
Skills: Strong diagnostic, technical, and communication abilities.
Mindset: A positive attitude, attention to detail, and a passion for patient care.
Physical Ability: Able to lift up to 50 lbs and work on your feet for extended periods.

Job Description
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
Pet restraint, triage incoming patients, collection and analysis of lab samples, diagnostic imaging, management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability, administration of medications, effective communication of treatment plans with clients, surgical preparation and assistance, and anesthetic management.
Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious diseases.

Qualifications
We're looking for:
* An experienced Veterinary Assistant with a minimum of 1-year experience preferred.

A Day in the Life of a Banfield Veterinary Assistant
The Vet Assistant provides professional, efficient and exceptional service at all times, making sure that clients and pets are comfortable in the hospital. You will use your technical skills on a daily basis, within state practice acts and as outlined in the NAVTA guidelines for veterinary assistant skills and duties. Other responsibilities include:
· Helping maintain the flow of patients
· Communicating with the veterinarian and vet techs
· Carrying out or setting up procedures that do not require veterinarian or vet tech assistance
· Adhering to hospital standards that keep pets safe, and the treatment areas, exam rooms and labs clean and organized

Assisting doctors in exam rooms, treatments, and surgical support
Monitoring anesthesia, performing radiographs & dental rads
Placing IV catheters, drawing blood, and preparing lab work

Working efficiently and collaboratively to help your teammates shine

Position Purpose:
The purpose of this position inherently involves providing excellent veterinary care to our Sugar Creek Animal Hospital patients. The Veterinary Technician represents the mission and values to all customers, setting the tone for the technical and customer support team. This dynamic role requires a proactive and adaptable individual who can handle a variety of tasks with enthusiasm.
Essential Job Functions
Greet clients and patients arriving for appointments and bring them into an exam room, obtain weight and vital signs, record all in the electronic medical record, and begin documentation of the patient visit in the electronic medical record by obtaining and recording a thorough patient history.
Assists during surgical procedures
Feeds and cares for animals
Maintains supplies and equipment
Maintains medical records
Determines animal requirements by conducting examinations and interviews.
Completes laboratory tests and diagnostic imaging
Takes vital signs and collects samples.
Administers medications, drugs, and vaccines.
Bandages and wraps wounds.
Supports animal examinations by assembling required supplies and instruments.
Explains animal status to owners.
Prepares surgical instruments.
Administers/monitors local/regional anesthesia.
Places catheters.
Maintains sterile conditions.
Obtains and verifies medications.
Cleans animal cages and equipment
Maintains safe, secure, healthy, and humane environment by sterilizing and wrapping instruments, sanitizing operating areas, verifying shelf life of medications, and complying with legal regulations.
Enhances service reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
Requirements:
Must have at least 1-year previous experience as a Veterinary Technician or working in a veterinary practice.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Must be compassionate and sympathetic and be able to maintain a professional attitude and demeanor during emotional and stressful situations.
Must have clinical and technical skills and understanding
