Answer inquiries regarding medical or behavioral problems. Schedule appointments for the animals and prepare clinic processing room for daily activities. Retrieve, document and update all animal electronic records and medical histories.
Per ORC 4741.01 (G), oversee and monitor the assignments of veterinary technicians and assistant(s). Report discrepancies, violations and general issues and/or violations to the assistant director. Ability to prepare surgery area for animals and verify appropriate information. Prepare and administer medications and animals for surgical procedures. Monitor the vital signs of animals and maintain surgical drug logs. Prepare post-operative surgical instructions and medications and perform follow-ups calls. Responsible for tracking, ordering, and maintaining drugs and medical supplies. Inventory management also required. Review and maintain controlled drug logs. Shall participate in adoption promotional events, coordinate vaccine clinics with contracted medical staff and/or shelter team and provide the public with animal health information and educational resources, as needed. A Day in the Life:
As a Kennel Tech, internally known as a Pet Pro, you are part of a larger team who is focused on the daily pet care of our guests. You'll report to work over a variety of shifts to handle everything from walking dogs, giving them a potty break, feeding and administering medicines, cleaning their rooms, playing with dogs + cats and even loving them as if they were your own. One day you could help our overnight guests feel like this is their palace away from home and the next day you might run the daycare play group and make sure everyone is getting along. You might snuggle a shy pup who needs some extra special attention while also helping a regular get right back into the swing of things.You'll not only communicate with the dog(s), but also have a lot of interaction with mom and dad. You'll document what you are seeing and be ready to share with your manager and the pet parent.. And let's not forget -- you're probably going to scoop some poop, clean up some pee, go home with some fur on you and get lots of sloppy kisses!
Responsibilities:
Ensure that each guest is treated with respect and dignity
Ensure that all guests are receiving appropriate amounts of food and water, clean and sanitize food/water bowls on a daily basis.
Clean up dog poop, urination and any vomit several times throughout your shift
Walk dogs on leash to and from outside exercise areas.
Engage in play activities with pets including: fetch, exercise walks, chase, agility, follow the leader, recall and basic obedience games, etc.
Supervise activities of multiple dogs throughout the day
Monitor closely for any potential conflicts or escalations and redirect or remove one or more dogs from the situation as needed
Maintain a sanitary and healthy environment by following our standards of cleaning and disinfecting rooms
Monitor guest's health by daily charting of eating and elimination habits. Dispose of and clean up any stool and urine.
Monitor guest's reaction to playtimes and general demeanor by charting playtime interactions
Follow all standards of safety with regards to handling guests, particularly aggressive guests and escape artists
Pay specific attention to special handling notes, (Meds Person to Feed, Aggressive, Separate for Feeding, etc.)
Immediately alert front staff and resort manager when a guest is ill or exhibiting odd behavior - follow-up by filling out illness form and turning it into a shift lead/manager.
Operate washer and dryer to clean pet belongings, towels, etc. Ensure belongings are returned to the appropriate pet.
Ensure the facility meets or exceeds our expectations with regards to cleanliness and safety. Clean and sanitize all pet enclosures, exercise yards, and common areas. Mix and use disinfectants and other chemicals safely as instructed by the supervisor.
Ensure that the property is maintained (lawn care, snow removal, tree maintenance)
Alert manager when levels of inventory are low in the following areas: pet foods, cleaning products for kennel and lobby areas
Help maintain the cleanliness of the property by picking up and disposing of trash or debris. Keep aisles, drains, carts, shelves, sinks, floors, furniture, counters and glass clean, sanitary and free of clutter/debris. Empty and sanitize trash cans and receptacles.
Alert manager of any safety or operational issues ie: broken guillotine doors, burnt-out lights, not enough salt for snowy areas, etc.
Keep informed of important notices, meetings, etc. by consulting the "Guest Services Command Center"

Where and When You'll Work
This is a regional remote position. Candidates must be U.S. based and reside within a 350 mile radius of the ASPCA Office in Champaign, IL for the duration of employment, and be available for travel to Champaign, IL. You may use this map to determine if your location is within this radius - simply enter a radius of 350 miles and “Champaign, IL” as the town name.
Schedule:
This is a late evening position that includes nights, evenings, and holidays.
Once proficiently trained, this position may work a full overnight shift approximately 3-5 times per year or a partial overnight shift 6-10 times per year to cover vacations for our overnight staff. We provide the option of a full overnight shift (10:00p - 6:00a) and partial overnight shifts (4:00a - 12:00p or 8:00p - 4:00a) or a mix of the two.

Compensation
Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of factors, including but not limited to education, training, experience, location, business needs, internal equity, market demands or budgeted amount for the role. The target hiring range is for new hire offers only, and staff compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience. The expected hiring salary range for this role is set forth below and may be modified in the future.
The base hourly wage for this role is $24.50 - $26.90. Staff in this role may be eligible for additional pay such as shift differential, per diem, or a spot bonus.

Contact Center and Clinical Case Management (90%)
Professionally manage medical cases initiated by telephone, email, and other electronic means, from practicing veterinarians, animal owners and others.
Obtain complete case histories and provide detailed and accurate diagnostic and treatment recommendations appropriate to the professional level of the caller and based on established APC protocols.
Enter (type-in) information into the electronic record efficiently and accurately as conveyed during communications with caller and consultations with APC DVMs.
Document exposures and risks, and relay detailed treatment recommendations per protocols and verbal instructions.
Create follow up actions to have records evaluated and closed by appropriate personnel.
Utilize ASPCA/APC resources to manage cases and access protocols, policies, and procedures.
Consult the on-site experts, managers, and senior staff as needed for additional case management information.
Complete follow up phone calls to pet owners and veterinary clinics as needed to obtain additional information regarding outcomes on specific cases.
Collect payments from callers with provided software tools.
Achieve quality and customer service-related goals as defined, exemplifying our core values and behavioral competencies.
Meet case management quality, customer service, and volume metric goals as set for specific levels of tenure.
May be assigned to other duties as necessary
Training and Professional Development Opportunities (Up to 10%)
Actively participate in on-site, off-site, or virtual training, including attendance at monthly support staff rounds.
Assist in supportive activities which may include development of protocols for the medical library database, contributions to APC blog posts on toxicology related topics, participation in the staff mentorship program, and assistance with special projects as needed
May be assigned to other duties as necessary.
Qualifications
This is a regional remote position. Candidates must be U.S. based and reside within a 350 mile radius of the ASPCA Office in Champaign, IL for the duration of employment.
Up to 20% travel may be required, as this position requires occasional on-site training and support.
A remote work agreement is required for staff not working at the ASPCA Midwest Office in Champaign, IL.
In order to maintain optimal internet connection, a download speed of at least 30 Mbps, an upload speed of at least 4 Mbps, and a ping/latency less than (or around) 120ms is required.
Staff will work daytime hours during their initial training and will be moved to later shifts incrementally, following the training schedule. Once training is complete, this position will begin as an evening or late evening shift, with shifts starting at 5p CT or later. Eligibility for earlier shifts is based on seniority.

Veterinary Technician credentials (required) in the state of residence, i.e., CVT, LVT, RVT.
Must obtain CVT credentials in Illinois within one year of hire.
