Responsibilities Include:
Hold or restrain animals during veterinary procedures; remaining calm and compassionate with animal, not reacting to fear and/or pain; keeping the patient, themselves, and other doctors or team members safe
Maintain a neat and organized work station
Providing care of hospitalized patients with exceptional patient care, focusing on details, and using critical thinking
Safely and competently operate equipment pertinent to carrying out duties including, but not limited to, laboratory equipment, intra-office technologies, and x-ray machine.
Assist with appointments and workups to maintain a timely flow of appointments.
Assist clients in and out of the exam room by holding doors, helping with carriers or carrying items/patients when needed.
Clean, freshen, and maintain kennels, animal holding areas, examination or operating rooms, and labs throughout the day to control the spread of disease.
Assist clients with unruly or unrestrained patients; make sure that all dogs are leashed and cats are in carriers; isolate aggressive patients or ask owners to leave them in their vehicle (weather permitting); request assistance from other team members as needed, do not let owners help with restraint.
Review services, medications, pet foods, and supplies; look for opportunities to educate clients regarding our products and services during discharging the patients.
Assist outgoing clients by providing all necessary instructions and dispensing prescription items per the veterinarian's instructions.
Client communication including but not limited to; answering medication/treatment plan questions, relaying messages from the veterinarian or licsensed technician, reviewing go home care instructions, obtaining accurate patient history, and more.
Be knowledgeable of and complete daily activities including:
Drawing up and administering subcutaneous vaccines and medications.
Triaging cases to expedite visits by obtaining a brief, but thorough history and vitals
Aide technicians and doctors with surgical procedures by setting up and maintaining sterile surgical areas, and assisting in the procedures.
Monitor animals recovering from surgery and notify veterinarians of any unusual changes or symptoms.
Performing nail trims, expressing anal glands, and cleaning ears on patients
Contribute to team health and engagement by being supportive, assisting with new hire training and attending and contributing to team meetings.

Not only will you focus on handling dogs + cats all day, but on the cleanliness of the facility.
A Day in the Life:
As a Kennel Tech, internally known as a Pet Pro, you are part of a larger team who is focused on the daily pet care of our guests. You'll report to work over a variety of shifts to handle everything from walking dogs, giving them a potty break, feeding and administering medicines, cleaning their rooms, playing with dogs + cats and even loving them as if they were your own. One day you could help our overnight guests feel like this is their palace away from home and the next day you might run the daycare play group and make sure everyone is getting along. You might snuggle a shy pup who needs some extra special attention while also helping a regular get right back into the swing of things.You'll not only communicate with the dog(s), but also have a lot of interaction with mom and dad. You'll document what you are seeing and be ready to share with your manager and the pet parent.. And let's not forget -- you're probably going to scoop some poop, clean up some pee, go home with some fur on you and get lots of sloppy kisses!
Responsibilities:
Ensure that each guest is treated with respect and dignity
Ensure that all guests are receiving appropriate amounts of food and water, clean and sanitize food/water bowls on a daily basis.
Clean up dog poop, urination and any vomit several times throughout your shift
Walk dogs on leash to and from outside exercise areas.
Engage in play activities with pets including: fetch, exercise walks, chase, agility, follow the leader, recall and basic obedience games, etc.
Supervise activities of multiple dogs throughout the day
Monitor closely for any potential conflicts or escalations and redirect or remove one or more dogs from the situation as needed
Maintain a sanitary and healthy environment by following our standards of cleaning and disinfecting rooms
Monitor guest's health by daily charting of eating and elimination habits. Dispose of and clean up any stool and urine.
Monitor guest's reaction to playtimes and general demeanor by charting playtime interactions
Follow all standards of safety with regards to handling guests, particularly aggressive guests and escape artists
Pay specific attention to special handling notes, (Meds Person to Feed, Aggressive, Separate for Feeding, etc.)
Immediately alert front staff and resort manager when a guest is ill or exhibiting odd behavior - follow-up by filling out illness form and turning it into a shift lead/manager.
Operate washer and dryer to clean pet belongings, towels, etc. Ensure belongings are returned to the appropriate pet.
Ensure the facility meets or exceeds our expectations with regards to cleanliness and safety. Clean and sanitize all pet enclosures, exercise yards, and common areas. Mix and use disinfectants and other chemicals safely as instructed by the supervisor.
Ensure that the property is maintained (lawn care, snow removal, tree maintenance)
Alert manager when levels of inventory are low in the following areas: pet foods, cleaning products for kennel and lobby areas
Help maintain the cleanliness of the property by picking up and disposing of trash or debris. Keep aisles, drains, carts, shelves, sinks, floors, furniture, counters and glass clean, sanitary and free of clutter/debris. Empty and sanitize trash cans and receptacles.
Alert manager of any safety or operational issues ie: broken guillotine doors, burnt-out lights, not enough salt for snowy areas, etc.
Keep informed of important notices, meetings, etc. by consulting the "Guest Services Command Center"

Job Description Summary: The Veterinary Assistant is a key member of the hospital team who supports and assists the veterinarians and veterinary technicians, ensuring the safety of pets, clients and other associates, and the continuity of quality veterinary care. Preferred Education/Licenses: Certificate of completion from a NAVTA-approved veterinary assistant program or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Preferred Experience: Must be able to perform all required skills of NAVTA-approved veterinary assistant programs at a level that aids in the efficiency of the practice. A Day in the Life of a Banfield Veterinary Assistant The Vet Assistant provides professional, efficient and exceptional service at all times, making sure that clients and pets are comfortable in the hospital. You will use your technical skills on a daily basis, within state practice acts and as outlined in the NAVTA guidelines for veterinary assistant skills and duties. Other responsibilities include: Helping maintain the flow of patients Communicating with the veterinarian and vet techs Carrying out or setting up procedures that do not require veterinarian or vet tech assistance Adhering to hospital standards that keep pets safe, and the treatment areas, exam rooms and labs clean and organized Educating clients about our Optimum Wellness Plans and the importance of preventive care Mentoring other members of the hospital team Commitment Beyond Qualifications Every associate including the Vet Assistant has an important contribution to make to the veterinary team.
