Portland Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Care (PVESC) offers the highest quality veterinary specialty referral and emergency medicine. Our specialties include Surgery, Anesthesiology, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Neurology, Dermatology, Emergency Critical Care, and Cardiology. Emergency veterinary services are available 24/7/365. CT and MRI are on site.
We have an opening for a full-time, licensed veterinary, credentialed technician or VTS to join our busy surgery department. Veterinary assistants very experienced in surgery will also be considered. If you are interested in fun, intricate, cool, different and amazing surgeries, our busy surgery department has five board-certified surgeons and multiple surgical interns and residents who will gladly use your skills for soft tissue, orthopedic, laparoscopic, and neurosurgery-- we see it all.
Our surgical technicians are responsible for all aspects of surgical nursing-- diagnostics, administering and monitoring anesthesia, treatments, admitting and discharging patients, surgical assisting, post-op care and recovery, and more. Experience in anesthesia and surgery is preferred, as is flexibility. We focus on high-quality, supportive, and personalized care for our clients and their pets. Obtain laboratory sample collection, process and interpret results (fecal/parasite analysis, ear cytology, skin cytology, urinalysis, blood smears)

Veterinary Technician Assistant
Southern Maine Veterinary Care in Lyman, ME
WHAT YOU'LL DO
* Ensure that clients and pets feel welcome and comfortable
* Help new clients fill out the forms for admission
* Ability to effectively communicate and educate clients on general animal husbandry and answer questions as directed by the veterinarian
* Present and explain client education materials
* Make certain all patients are kept clean and as comfortable as possible
* Ability to obtain a complete and accurate medical history, as well as vital signs, within the scope of veterinary technology and under the direction of a doctor
* Clearly communicate your findings to a doctor, refraining from making a diagnosis
* Understand how to prep animals for minor (non-sterile) and sterile surgery
* Draw blood samples. Collect stool and urine samples under the supervision of a doctor and as allowed by state regulations.
* Keep medical records accurate and up to date
* Make certain entire hospital is clean
* Answers telephone calls quickly, efficiently and in a professional and friendly manner using a multi-line system
* Prepares client invoices for services performed
* Receives and relays telephone, fax, and email messages accurately and promptly

* High school diploma or equivalent
