Veterinary Technician Assistants (TA) help facilitate and streamline the communication from the operating room, to the front office staff and most importantly, the client. RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES - Veterinary Technician Assistant • Assists the Veterinary Technician (VT) in preparing clients for medical, surgical, and dental surgeries, by assisting in the administering of anesthesia and properly restrains the animals as needed for examination and treatment • Effectively partner with the Veterinarian and Veterinary Technician (VT) Teams to administer proper patient triage protocol based on the client and facilities needs and capabilities in a fast paced and effective manner • Help to coordinate operational duties that facilitate the work of the Veterinarian, Animal Care Attendant (ACA), and Groomers - all who provide patient care and client service • Collects specimens for laboratory testing, manages samples for in-house and outside lab testing, and ensures that test results are recorded in patient charts for labs including, but not limited to fecal, heartworm, skin scrapings, urinalysis, fungal cultures, and blood draws • Assists with administering radiographs, EKGs and EEGs • Monitor patient health, physically and behaviorally, and rapidly identify any issues or changes that may require special action and report the information to the supervisor immediately, through properly monitoring the vital signs for all animals under the care of the clinic for hospitalization • Aid Veterinary Technicians (VT) with booked appointments, walk-ins, and work-ins, including recording observations/treatment plans in the patient file, and aid in the performance of medical treatments under doctor supervision • Support the Veterinary Technician (VT) Team by admitting and discharging patients under the advice and plan of care drawn up by the Veterinarian and communicated to the client through client education, both written and verbal, on proper wound care, wellness protocol, vaccination expectations, illness, medication dosage, the purpose of the medications prescribed, and what to expect in the coming days after a surgery • Work with the Veterinary Technician (VT) to prepare and present treatment estimate to the client and properly invoice the client once the plan of care is agreed upon and documented in the patients' chart • Partner with the Veterinary Technicians (VT) to maintain an appropriate inventory of all medical supplies as determined by the inventory control system in all exam rooms and surgery areas • Provide consistent and on-going support to the Veterinarian and Veterinary Technician (VT) Teams as needed and maintain a positive and cooperative relationship with other facility staff • Maintain facility cleanliness and sanitation standards by organizing product, keeping the staff areas clean and organized, vacuuming, dusting, mopping, washing/drying of facility laundry, washing patient dishes and discarding of trash/waste materials on a continuous basis to meet the CityVet policies • Facilities & Equipment Officer • Complete all tasks as assigned by supervisor CAREER DEVELOPMENT Opportunities for career advancement include, but are not limited to: • Veterinary Technician • Certified Veterinary Technician RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES - A Day in the Life: As a Kennel Tech, internally known as a Pet Pro, you are part of a larger team who is focused on the daily pet care of our guests. You'll report to work over a variety of shifts to handle everything from walking dogs, giving them a potty break, feeding and administering medicines, cleaning their rooms, playing with dogs + cats and even loving them as if they were your own. One day you could help our overnight guests feel like this is their palace away from home and the next day you might run the daycare play group and make sure everyone is getting along. You might snuggle a shy pup who needs some extra special attention while also helping a regular get right back into the swing of things.You'll not only communicate with the dog(s), but also have a lot of interaction with mom and dad. You'll document what you are seeing and be ready to share with your manager and the pet parent.. And let's not forget -- you're probably going to scoop some poop, clean up some pee, go home with some fur on you and get lots of sloppy kisses! Responsibilities: Ensure that each guest is treated with respect and dignity Ensure that all guests are receiving appropriate amounts of food and water, clean and sanitize food/water bowls on a daily basis. Clean up dog poop, urination and any vomit several times throughout your shift Walk dogs on leash to and from outside exercise areas. Engage in play activities with pets including: fetch, exercise walks, chase, agility, follow the leader, recall and basic obedience games, etc. Supervise activities of multiple dogs throughout the day Monitor closely for any potential conflicts or escalations and redirect or remove one or more dogs from the situation as needed Maintain a sanitary and healthy environment by following our standards of cleaning and disinfecting rooms Monitor guest's health by daily charting of eating and elimination habits. Dispose of and clean up any stool and urine. Monitor guest's reaction to playtimes and general demeanor by charting playtime interactions Follow all standards of safety with regards to handling guests, particularly aggressive guests and escape artists Pay specific attention to special handling notes, (Meds Person to Feed, Aggressive, Separate for Feeding, etc.) Immediately alert front staff and resort manager when a guest is ill or exhibiting odd behavior - follow-up by filling out illness form and turning it into a shift lead/manager. Operate washer and dryer to clean pet belongings, towels, etc. Ensure belongings are returned to the appropriate pet. Ensure the facility meets or exceeds our expectations with regards to cleanliness and safety. Clean and sanitize all pet enclosures, exercise yards, and common areas. Mix and use disinfectants and other chemicals safely as instructed by the supervisor. Ensure that the property is maintained (lawn care, snow removal, tree maintenance) Alert manager when levels of inventory are low in the following areas: pet foods, cleaning products for kennel and lobby areas Help maintain the cleanliness of the property by picking up and disposing of trash or debris. Keep aisles, drains, carts, shelves, sinks, floors, furniture, counters and glass clean, sanitary and free of clutter/debris. Empty and sanitize trash cans and receptacles. Alert manager of any safety or operational issues ie: broken guillotine doors, burnt-out lights, not enough salt for snowy areas, etc. Keep informed of important notices, meetings, etc. by consulting the "Guest Services Command Center" Consult with other departments Work with a team who all exemplify these qualities: A passion for animals and animal care, especially dogs + cats.
