This includes performing or preparing procedures that do not require veterinarian or veterinary technician assistance, completing preparatory work for other procedures, ensuring that clients and pets are comfortable in the hospital, and monitoring hospitalized or surgical pets as allowed in the state practice acts. Educate clients about Optimum Wellness Plans, preventive care, pet health needs, hospital services and other issues. Obtain relevant information and history from clients and maintain proper and complete medical charts. Ensure the safety of pets, clients and associates by utilizing safe restraining techniques, following standard protocols, and maintaining clean, sterile and organized treatment areas, exam rooms and labs. Assist with surgery as applicable. Utilize technical skills to the fullest, within state practice acts and as outlined in the NAVTA guidelines for veterinary assistant skills and duties. Provide a high level of animal husbandry care including, but not limited to, bathing, feeding, check overs, nail clipping, ear cleaning, and medicating according to established policies and procedures. Monitor the birthing process to ensure the health and safety of the brood and her neonates. Perform whelping procedures and assist the brood as needed. Manage all post-whelp clean-up, care, and treatments. Perform assigned medical treatments in accordance with standard procedures, including but not limited to administering vaccines and preventatives, subcutaneous fluids, tube feeding, and the use and care of ICU equipment. Clean and maintain kennel facilities, equipment and assigned grounds. Effectively work with pups in early obedience and socialization. Qualifications You Will Need Demonstrated competency in all Kennel Technician duties, with experience caring for dogs in a kennel, Veterinary, or training environment; Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) or Veterinary Technician strongly preferred.
