About this Position
Instruct and assist year-four professional veterinary students. Maintain equipment and supplies inventory in clinical areas. Provide high quality veterinary technical assistance in several clinics/departments of the VTH including small animal medicine and surgery, small animal ICU, equine medicine and surgery, food animal medicine and surgery etc.
Required Qualifications
High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
Two years related experience; or Associate of Science degree in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA accredited veterinary technology program with two years related experience; or Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences or related area; or DVM degree or equivalent.
Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:
Experience in restraint of small animals, administering injections, and placement of IV (peripheral, central, and urinary) catheters is essential. Must have knowledge of equipment used within VTH including, but not limited to: personal computer, telephone, copy machine, diagnostic lab equipment, electrodiagnostic equipment, and ECG, etc. Must be physically capable of lifting animals weighing 50 pounds or greater onto exam tables and into elevated cages.

Under supervision of the veterinarian and/or veterinary technician, assistants will maintain patients safely under anesthesia while monitoring vital parameters, help monitor patients during recovery and prepare them for hospital discharge or transfer to an overnight care facility.
* Under supervision of the veterinarian and/or veterinary technician, perform in-hospital treatments for sick patients including giving injectable and oral medications as well as intravenous fluid therapy; keep patients clean, watered, and fed (when indicated and directed by doctor), safely walk canine patients when necessary for elimination.
* Under direction of the HOM/HLOD, assist in the training of new staff members and general dissemination of knowledge as required.
* Keep hospital environment neat and clean; perform regular cleaning of environment based on necessity as well as based on a pre-determined maintenance schedule.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
* Perform additional duties as assigned
* Provide backup phone and front desk support as needed
Nature of Supervision
In all activities related to the care of individual patients, the incumbent will take direct supervision from the veterinarians as well as the Veterinary Technician. For purposes of overall supervision, the incumbent takes direction from the HOM/HLOD or from the supervising technician for the shift.

Like all team members, the VeterinaryAssistant plays a crucial role in ensuring that day-to-day operation of the hospital is efficient and provides an optimal experience for our patients and clients.

Work Environment:
The majority of job duties are conducted in the Veterinary Hospital. Position requires bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 30 pounds, as necessary) and standing for long periods of time. A large amount of this partner's time will be spent in direct contact with clients and their pets.

About this Position
The College of Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital at Oklahoma State University is seeking an enthusiastic person with a passion for small animals. Successful candidate will provide clinical assistance to professional staff and a variety of treatments to patients admitted to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH). Candidates will have the opportunity to actively participate in one-on-one training of veterinary students, as well as work alongside veterinary specialists to provide clients and patients with the highest standard of care.
This is a full-time position with varying shifts and hours. Shift differentials are available for non-traditional shifts. Every full-time employee receives a full benefits package. The VTH is a 145,000 square foot, full-service veterinary teaching hospital providing 24 hour care for all domestic and selected exotic and wildlife species. The VTH admits more than 15,500 clinical cases per year, and hospitalizes 5-8 ICU cases per day. Our hospital is equipped with digital radiography, MRI, CT, ultrasound, endoscopy, 24-hour access to full clinical pathology lab, oxygen cages, pulse oximetry, capnography, I-Stat point-of-care testing, telemetry, blood pressure and central venous pressure monitoring, Pleur-Evac suction units, and ventilator therapy. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to interact with 20 small animal specialists, as well as a supportive group of interns and residents. Required Qualifications
High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
VeterinaryAssistant - High school/GED with two years' experience.
Veterinary Technician I - Registered Veterinary Technician or completed associate degree in veterinary technology and will sit for the Oklahoma State Board of Examiner's technician certifying exam and obtain licensure within 120 days of hire.
Veterinary Technician II - Three years' experience as a VeterinaryAssistant/Technician or equivalent at an AVMA accredited teaching hospital, or large, multi-clinician private veterinary practice.
Veterinary Technician III - Six years' experience as a VeterinaryAssistant/Technician or equivalent at an AVMA accredited teaching hospital, or large, multi-clinician private veterinary practice.

Position Purpose:
The purpose of this position inherently involves providing excellent medical care to our Vetco Total Care full-service hospital patients and phenomenal customer care to their owners. The VeterinaryAssistant represents the mission and values to all clients. Our VeterinaryAssistants set the tone for the technical and customer support in the hospital, and are responsible, like all team members, for fostering cohesion and motivation within the practice.

Essential Job Functions
The incumbent must be able to perform all the following duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation:
* Greet clients and patients arriving for appointments and escort them into an exam room, obtain weight and vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations) and record the electronic medical record. VeterinaryAssistants will collect thorough patient histories and document the patient visit in the EMRs.
* Assist doctors with appointments (routine and emergency), surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia, under supervision from the veterinarian credentialed veterinary technician, , HOM and HLOD.
* Perform patient restraint, obtain and process laboratory samples, handle and dispense medications at the direction of the veterinarian and help maintain the electronic medical record.
* Schedule appointments, provide client education, relay test results to doctor and clients, and maintain and update client/patient records.
* Help prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures and assist doctor and/or veterinary technician in anesthetizing patients. Under supervision of the veterinarian and/or veterinary technician, assistants will maintain patients safely under anesthesia while monitoring vital parameters, help monitor patients during recovery and prepare them for hospital discharge or transfer to an overnight care facility.
* Under supervision of the veterinarian and/or veterinary technician, perform in-hospital treatments for sick patients including giving injectable and oral medications as well as intravenous fluid therapy; keep patients clean, watered, and fed (when indicated and directed by doctor), safely walk canine patients when necessary for elimination.
* Under direction of the HOM/HLOD, assist in the training of new staff members and general dissemination of knowledge as required.
* Keep hospital environment neat and clean; perform regular cleaning of environment based on necessity as well as based on a pre-determined maintenance schedule.
Other Duties and Responsibilities

* Provide backup phone and front desk support as needed
Nature of Supervision
In all activities related to the care of individual patients, the incumbent will take direct supervision from the veterinarians as well as the Veterinary Technician. For purposes of overall supervision, the incumbent takes direction from the HOM/HLOD or from the supervising technician for the shift.

Like all team members, the VeterinaryAssistant plays a crucial role in ensuring that day-to-day operation of the hospital is efficient and provides an optimal experience for our patients and clients.

About this Position
The College of Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital at Oklahoma State University is seeking an enthusiastic person with a passion for small and large animals. Successful candidate will provide clinical assistance to professional staff and a variety of treatments to patients admitted to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH). Candidates will have the opportunity to actively participate in one-on-one training of veterinary students, as well as work alongside veterinary specialists to provide clients and patients with the highest standard of care.
Employee must be available after hours on a pre-scheduled basis for emergency duty. Compensation for after-hours technical assistance complies with university stand-by and call-in compensation policy. Every full-time employee receives a full benefits package. This includes health insurance, life insurance, retirement, 13 paid holidays (including one full week off around Christmas), paid annual and sick leave, and more. You also have free access to OSU's gym and fitness centers, employee assistance program, and free professional development through main campus's human resources department.
The VTH is a 145,000 square foot, full-service veterinary teaching hospital providing 24 hour care for all domestic and selected exotic and wildlife species. The VTH admits more than 15,500 clinical cases per year, and hospitalizes 5-8 ICU cases per day. Our hospital is equipped with digital radiography, MRI, CT, ultrasound, endoscopy, 24-hour access to full clinical pathology lab, oxygen cages, pulse oximetry, capnography, I-Stat point-of-care testing, telemetry, blood pressure and central venous pressure monitoring, Pleur-Evac suction units, and ventilator therapy. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to interact with 20 small animal specialists, as well as a supportive group of interns and residents. Required Qualifications
High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
VeterinaryAssistant - High school/GED with two years' experience.
Veterinary Technician I - Registered Veterinary Technician or completed associate degree in veterinary technology and will sit for the Oklahoma State Board of Examiner's technician certifying exam and obtain licensure within 120 days of hire.
Veterinary Technician II - Three years' experience as a VeterinaryAssistant/Technician or equivalent at an AVMA accredited teaching hospital, or large, multi-clinician private veterinary practice.
Veterinary Technician III - Six years' experience as a VeterinaryAssistant/Technician or equivalent at an AVMA accredited teaching hospital, or large, multi-clinician private veterinary practice.
Senior Veterinary Technician - Eight years' experience as a VeterinaryAssistant/Technician or equivalent at an AVMA accredited teaching hospital, or large, multi-clinician private veterinary practice with greater than one year experience within a specific specialty.
Veterinary Technician Specialist I - Registered Veterinary Technician. Veterinary Technician Specialist recognized by NAVTA; or have credentials in specialty that VTH defines as meriting recognition.
Veterinary Technician Specialist II - Must meet all requirements of Veterinary Technician Specialist I. Five years of experience as Veterinary Technician Specialist recognized by NAVTA; or have credentials in specialty that VTH defines as meriting recognition.
Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge: Experience in restraint of small and large animals, administering injections, and placement of IV (peripheral, central, and urinary) catheters is essential. Must have knowledge of equipment used within VTH including, but not limited to: personal computer, telephone, copy machine, laser, video endoscope, diagnostic lab equipment, camera/video camera, electrodiagnostic equipment, etc. Must be physically capable of lifting animals weighing 50 pounds or greater onto exam tablesand into elevated cages.
