Creates and maintains accurate records reflecting exams, treatments and interventions received via Joybound People and Pets programming. Principal Duties: Under the supervision of a veterinarian, administer and monitor anesthesia, provide preventative and basic nursing care, follow treatment protocols, and assist or lead in managing treatment of more urgent medical conditions for Joybound People and Pet's shelter guests and client owned animals. Perform diagnostic testing including imaging, laboratory tests and in-house diagnostics on shelter guests and client owned animals. Assist in managing the overall health of the shelter guest population via daily rounds, preventative care, protocols and general monitoring, and ensuring timely communication of any need for intervention(s). Under the supervision of a veterinarian, induce, intubate, monitor and recover shelter and client owned animals for spay/neuter and other surgeries, as appropriate and outlined by law. Assist Joybound personnel whenever necessary to assure smooth, courteous handling of the public and their pets. Key Responsibilities: * Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during exams, treatments, and procedures * Provide compassionate care for patients including feeding, cleaning, and walking * Use safe restraining techniques during exams and treatments * Maintain clean, sterile, and organized exam rooms, kennels, and treatment areas * Support with diagnostic tests and collecting samples (fecal, urine, blood under supervision) * Prepare and maintain medical records and client communication * Educate pet parents on basic care, medications, and home-care instructions * Help with patient admissions and discharges * Maintain hospital inventory and restock supplies * Participate in hospital cleanliness, including laundry, dishes, and facility upkeep * Be a positive team player and contribute to a supportive, inclusive work culture Experience & Skills Requirements: * 1 year previous veterinary assistant experience required * Passion for animals and commitment to excellent care * Strong communication and client service skills * Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment * Comfortable working with computers and electronic medical records * Team-oriented and proactive * Willingness to learn and take initiative You'll Grow With Us We believe in growing together.
