What You'll Do: Serve to support the practice team, setting the bar for providing high-level, proficient veterinary support care and embodying the Chewy Vet Care culture to work collaboratively with peers and deliver the pet parent WOW experience. Responsible for implementing the outlined policies and procedures, using integrated technology, and delivering consistent and appropriate medical care within the given abilities. Perform veterinary assistant skills to support practice veterinarians, including assistance with operating medical equipment (like lab, radiology, anesthesia, dental) and performing functions that require handling animal bodily fluids and tissues. Demonstrate team support and care for others' work experiences. Understand and follow the practice's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Standards of Care (SOC) Review invoices with clients and handle client payments. Communicate clearly and respectfully with other Team Members, keeping veterinarians informed in real time on patient updates (in practice, at referral, and under home care) Be proficient using the PIMS and aid others on the team in their use of the technology. Act responsibly given the pharmacy holdings of the practice and keep controlled substance logs. Assist practice manager with communicating on inventory needs. Clean workspaces after every patient or patient lab sample interaction. Participation in self-development courses and Chewy Vet Care required compliance training. Perform related duties and assignments as directed by management. May be required to work weekends, position may require some travel. What You'll Need: Successful completion of an accredited veterinary assistant program is preferred. Demonstrated ability to complete the veterinary assistant skills checklist for Veterinary Assistant. 0 - 2 years of experience as a Veterinary Assistant in practice. Experience in veterinary medicine Passionate about helping people and pets with empathy and excellent customer service focus. Strong ability to connect with clients and demonstrate empathy and compassion. Excellent verbal / written communication, observational, and analytical skills. Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Physical Job Requirements: Standing or walking up to 80% per shift. Frequently lift up to 50 to 70 pounds using an optional team lift. Role Responsibilities: * Support veterinarians to ensure quality veterinary care, advocate for pets, and educate clients. * With each hospital function, assist veterinarians and the medical team to maximize productivity and maintain positive patient flow. * Assist with surgeries and procedures in accordance with your state's Veterinary Practice Act outlined for credentialed veterinary technicians and assistants. * Communicate with clients about individualized pet health concerns and offer guidance on Thrive Membership options, medications, and additional treatments. * Assist in maintaining relevant, comprehensive medical records with the support of practice systems. * Obtain relevant health history and information from clients and maintain medical charts. * Use safe restraining techniques, follow standard protocols, and sustain clean, sterile, organized treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs. * Be willing to guide, mentor, and support fellow team members.
