This position is all clinic based and the Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner will treat common orthopedic and pain issues. There is no call schedule, evenings or weekends, and the hours are Monday through Friday (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). General orthopedic cases include shoulders, knees, hips and back (about two thirds). The experienced Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner will run their own clinic and will see on average 20 to 30 patients per day. This is a new facility that has digital x-ray, MRI and EMR. Responsibilities include: run clinics, patient evaluations and education, removing casts and pins, fracture care, consultation, ordering and reviewing lab tests, writing scripts and injections (cortisone, trigger point etc.). The group will only consider experienced Physician Assistants/Nurse Practitioners, and they must have solid experience in spine. There is a very competitive compensation and full benefits. The position is located in an upscale area of North Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington. The veterinary assistant is the technician's primary support. They assist in pet restraint, test set-up, nursing care, and triage/discharge of patients. They aid the technicians in achieving greater efficiency by relieving them of some of the routine work. Reports To: Lead Technician General Duties: Obtain and record patient history. Field questions and inquiries about services, triage, and products. Know common drugs and protocols and be able to explain them to clients. Document legibly with correct spelling and keep accurate medical records by hospital policy. Prepare and maintain the exam rooms and treatment areas. Perform physical assessments; record observations legibly in files or computers. Communicate necessary follow-up and home care instructions. Collect and perform lab procedures. Assist with positioning and taking radiographs. Calculate and properly administer fluids and medications. Perform venipunctures and place IV catheters. Prep wounds and apply bandages. Your life-changing work will range from the hands-on care of facilitating outpatient treatments and performing laboratory tests, to support services including admitting and discharging patients. Role Responsibilities: Support veterinarians to ensure quality veterinary care, advocate for pets, and educate clients during outpatient appointments. With each hospital function, assist veterinarians and the medical team to maximize productivity and maintain positive patient flow. Obtain pertinent health history and information from clients and maintain medical charts. Assist in maintaining relevant, comprehensive medical records with the support of practice systems. Perform basic nursing skills such as taking vital signs, performing nail trims, anal gland expression, venipuncture and administering injections. Use safe restraining techniques, follow standard protocols, and sustain clean, sterile, organized treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs. Prepare patients, medications and equipment for examination. Prepare patient lab samples for in-house and reference lab diagnostic screening. Communicate with clients about individualized pet health concerns and offer guidance on Thrive Membership options, medications, and additional treatments. Be willing to guide, mentor, and support fellow team members. Experience & Skills Requirements: Excellent oral and written communication skills. Able to enter medical notes and maintain medical records; can type 45 wpm minimally. Able to lift 40lbs unassisted.
