* Disseminate knowledge throughout staff to improve the level of care and communication provided hospital partners, to both the patient and the client.

Nature of Supervision:
In all activities related to the care of individual patients, the Veterinarian will take direct supervision from the Hospital Medical Leader or Area Medical Director. The Veterinarian has discretion related to decisions regarding patient care, however, it is imperative that the Veterinarian uphold the standards set forth in the Petco Veterinary SOPs. The Veterinarian should expect to receive direction and guidance based on electronic medical record review from the Hospital Medical Leader or Area Medical Director regarding patient decisions and should accept such feedback as a means to elevate patient care in the hospital.
All hospital veterinarians should work together in a collegial fashion and are expected to behave in a professional and personable manner.
Planning and Problem Solving:
Problem solving is at the heart of veterinary medicine, and it is expected that any successful candidate will possess excellent problem-solving skills that allow expeditious diagnosis of patient problems.
Impact:
This position will impact the organization by contributing to the growth of a productive practice while focusing on a high-quality standard of care. From an overall hospital organizational standpoint, this position is critical to ensuring that we have a cohesive, well-trained, and motivated team. Supervisory Responsibility:

Education/Experience
* Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or equivalent from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school.
* Active licensure as a veterinarian without contingencies in the state in which the hospital is located or ability to obtain by start date.
* Current DEA license.
* Current Controlled Substance License, if applicable, in state in which the hospital is located or ability to obtain by start date.
* USDA Category I (minimum) Accreditation or completion within two months of hire date.
* Must be comfortable performing anesthesia and routine surgeries including but not limited to: canine and feline spays, neuters, mass removals, and dentals.
* Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Must be compassionate and sympathetic, and be able to maintain a professional attitude and demeanor during emotional and stressful situations.
* Must have telephone and computer skills.

Work Environment:
The majority of job duties are conducted in the Vetco Total Care veterinary full-service hospital. Location: Oakland is an expensive community, and is part of the greater SF Bay area. The campus is in the heart of the community that they serve. There are homeless in the area and it tends to be a gritty community. However, the campus is an oasis and is beautiful. San Leandro is very close and is an affordable community with an easy commute to the campus. There is easy access to the ocean, to hiking and other outdoor activities along with a great foodie environment and close to SF with all it has to offer.
History - The East Bay SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) has been an innovator in animal welfare since 1874! The practice is well-funded with fund raising, sponsors and grants.
Facility - well cared for and updated frequently
Equipment - excellent new/newer equipment including: 2022 digital radiology, 2 year old laser, new video otoscope, new ultrasound with excellent remote support and diagnostics including boarded radiologists
Additional Services Offered - Two HVSN clinics plus vaccine clinic. Community practice associates are not required to work in shelter clinic or vaccine clinic.

The associate veterinarian plays a vital part in supporting the community, especially for those clients and animals who may not have another accessible option for care. This associate veterinarian position is responsible for providing care, treatment and surgical services for client-owned and shelter animals at East Bay SPCA. The associate veterinarian spends 90-100% of their time in the Oakland AAHA full-service veterinary clinic seeing appointments and performing surgeries. The associate veterinarian may spend up to 10% of their time based on organizational needs between shelter animal care in Dublin and Oakland and at the high quality/high volume spay/neuter clinics. As a part of a multi-doctor team, this position works closely with the VP of Medical Services, fellow associate veterinarians and the medical support team in an effort to support the mission of East Bay SPCA.
Qualifications
Clinical Care - 75% to 100% of duties
Regularly performs surgical procedures including, but not limited to, ovariohysterectomy, orchiectomy/castration, tumor/lump removal, hernia repair and tooth extractions, limited orthopedic and ocular procedures.
Regularly performs veterinary health care functions, including examination and treatment of sheltered animals and client animals, and aids in the evaluation of the disposition of sheltered animals as needed in collaboration with medical support staff, within established shelter animal and companion animal health protocols.
Works cooperatively with the VP of Medical Services and associate veterinarians in the development and implementation of goals, policies and procedures related to the practices of the veterinary clinics and shelters.
Establishes and maintains medical record and drug use logs to standards of veterinary practices; ensures that records are in order and complete.
Ensures that quality care is provided to clients, staff and volunteers throughout the veterinary clinic(s).
Consults with clients and veterinarians regularly. Works cooperatively with staff and management throughout the organization.
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of animal health protocols, surgical procedures and companion animal health issues.

Who you are:
You thrive in a fast-paced, animal shelter environment, holding animal health and welfare as the primary concern. Participate in public vaccination clinics.

On occasion, serve as the after-hours contact for emergencies. Give advice by phone or text to Animal Rescue & Control, the NPVEC and PHS staff.

Key Responsibilities
Comprehensive patient exams and medical work-ups
Client communication and education
Performing diagnostic procedures and surgery
Maintaining accurate medical records
Pharmacy duties such as prescribing medications to patients and following controlled substance protocols
Promote teamwork and staff efficiency
Work with the Hospital Manager on weekly priorities and expectations
Evaluate and monitor protocols for the daily running of the hospital from intake to discharge
Monitor cases in the hospital and attend daily rounds when possible to be sure the highest standards are being upheld
Participate in practice management updates and training at all levels

Qualifications (Required)
Veterinarian degree (DVM or VMD) from an accredited college or university
Current State Veterinary License
DEA registration must be obtained and maintained
1+ years of experience in a veterinary practice
Strong diagnostic and clinical skills.
Excellent surgical and dental skills.
Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
Commitment to providing compassionate and high-quality veterinary care.
Excellent Communication Skills and the ability to communicate effectively, efficiently, and in a timely manner with all members of the Medical and Hospital staff.
Client communication skills, must be able to elicit information, establish rapport, offer explanations with pet owners.
Display confidence and reassurance when dealing with pets experiencing severe stress, illness, or pain.
May include some climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
Some tasks involve the periodic performance of moderately physically demanding work.
Position does require the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Part Time Associate Veterinarian to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about providing high-quality veterinary care and possess excellent communication skills to build lasting relationships with our clients. You will work alongside a team of experienced veterinarians, technicians, and support staff and will work closely with the Hospital Manager and Regional Manager.
