Sample types may include but are not limited to blood, feces, oral fluids, nasal, tonsillar, or laryngeal swabs, tissues, etc. Assists with necropsies at direction of Site Veterinarian or delegate Experience: This position requires a High School diploma or equivalent degree (GED). This position requires the ability to work in extreme environments (hot, cold, noisy, humid, etc.) with a high priority focused on biosecurity, attention to detail, and timeliness. Individual must demonstrate persistence and energy in a dynamic, fast-paced, and demanding work environment. Some heavy lifting is required, and must be able to lift up to 70 pounds occasionally and up to 50 pounds frequently. Travel outside of local area is rarely required. Must be willing to work directly with animals during ante-mortem and post-mortem procedures. This person must not have allergies to animals or livestock/feed dust. Must be able to read and see clearly. Prescription eye wear is allowed. Temperament / Mental Requirements - Must be able to maintain even temperament when working with livestock. Position requires willingness to learn at a rapid pace. Individual must be results oriented, cooperative, and a systematic thinker. Key Responsibilities Provide compassionate care to all patients Greet patients and their owners as they arrive and show them to an examining room, taking the patient's weight and other vital signs upon arrival Triage patients, perform physical exams, treatments, and administer medication as directed by the licensed veterinary technicians (LVT's). Calm and soothe anxious patients Assist doctors and technicians with the administration of medications or with patient restraint Perform laboratory tests and take radiographs Operate and maintain hospital equipment, including EKG, fluid pump, syringe pump, scales, anesthetic monitors, and machines, etc. Fill prescriptions, calculate and administer medications, maintain proper documentation, logging, and security of controlled drugs. Qualifications: Education/Certification: High school diploma or equivalent (required). 3 years of experience as a veterinary technician or assistant Veterinary Technician Certification (LVT, RVT, or CVT) preferred. Experience in veterinary Emergency Medicine or a similar specialty is highly desirable but not required. Skills & Experience: Strong knowledge of veterinary medical terminology, animal behavior, and procedures. Proficiency with medical equipment, including IV pumps, infusion pumps, and diagnostic tools. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to provide compassionate and clear explanations to clients. Ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry animals and equipment up to 50 pounds. Ability to stand for long periods and perform physical tasks in a fast-paced environment. Comfort working with potentially ill and difficult-to-handle animals.
