What You'll Do:
Empower team to deliver an unparalleled client experience.
Develop a rapport with clients and resolve their needs and wishes.
Perform physical examinations and diagnostic/medical/surgical/dental procedures in a way that will deliver quality care while minimizing patient stress and discomfort.
Has mastered medical skills and perform basic surgery.
Explain physical examination findings and communicate a diagnosis of the pet's condition; generate and present a treatment plan for the pet to the client.
Educate clients on preventative health care, including vaccines and appropriate nutritional products.
Maintain client/patient medical/surgical records and make certain all logs are kept up to date through established protocols; assist colleagues in follow-up and future management of the patient.
Staying current with new medical information and changes in veterinary medicine, attend continuing education meetings.
Assist in the development of the paraprofessional team to ensure the delivery of the highest quality care.
Positively represents the clinic in the professional community and to the public.
Support Veterinary Technicians and Veterinary Assistants with escalations as needed.
Participation in self-development courses and Chewy Vet Care required compliance training.
Perform related duties and assignments by management.
Oversee operating, safety, and compliance procedures as required by applicable law and Chewy Vet Care processes and policies.
Position may require some travel.
What You'll Need:
A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (DVM, VMD) or equivalent is required
Active State license in good standing, DEA license and other state credentials as required
0 - 2 years' experience in general medicine and surgery
2 years of supervised experience with veterinary radiation machines preferred
Multi-task with a high degree of integrity and accountability.
Outstanding listening and problem-solving skills, strong verbal and written communication skills.
Comfortable collaborating with other veterinary professionals in a team-oriented environment.
Is passionate about helping people and pets with empathy and excellent customer service focus.

This is entry-level technical work in the maintenance of kennel facilities to include: care and feeding of sheltered animals in the medical areas, performance of related clerical and customer support work, providing support to veterinarians and veterinary technician supervisor in routine medical, surgical, and/or necropsy procedures. Work requires knowledge of techniques, methods, and procedures used in the care of animals and maintenance of kennel facilities which involves the use of specialized skills which are acquired through a combination of training and considerable on the job experience. Contacts with others require skills in understanding and influencing people, which are important as it relates to animal care issues.Skills of persuasiveness, assertiveness, and sensitivity to others point of view are often required to influence behavior, change an opinion, or turn a situation around. Work schedule involves some weekend, holidays, and rotating shifts. Work is semi-routine in that tasks are covered by procedures or precedents, but some latitude is permitted to consider the most appropriate method, technique, or procedure to follow. Work is performed in field, kennel, and office environments, where there are some risks and hazards due to the handling of ill and infectious animals, and exposure to offensive odors, chemicals, and other airborne nuisances but the hazards are known, somewhat predictable and mostly controllable. Operates laboratory and standard office equipment such as personal computer, two-way radio, euthanasia equipment, animal restraint equipment and cash register. Operates a motor vehicle. The physical demands consist mainly of standing, walking, transporting animals, and lifting animals and/or objects weighing more than 50 pounds. Work is performed under general supervision where the work assignments are varied and, although subject to standard practices and procedures, the worker is permitted some latitude to set own priorities subject to supervisor's approval.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

OPEN REQUIREMENTS:
* One year of education and/or technical experience in biology, animal husbandry, herd management, animal handling/care, veterinary technician, pre-med or pre-veterinary, medical, phlebotomy or laboratory technician experience.
* Successfully passing the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE) to become certified as a Veterinary Technician may be substituted for six months of experience.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
* The probation period for this class is six (6) months.
* This classification performs safety-sensitive functions and is subject to pre-employment, random and other drug/alcohol testing programs as set forth in the City of Jacksonville's Drug Free Workplace Policy (0401).
* ACPS is part of the City of Jacksonville's emergency response operations. When pet friendly emergency shelters are open, all full-time employees are required to report and carry out duties as assigned for the duration of the emergency. Job duties include, but are not limited to:
Pet restraint, triage incoming patients, collection and analysis of lab samples, diagnostic imaging, management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability, administration of medications, effective communication of treatment plans with clients, surgical preparation and assistance, and anesthetic management.

VETERINARY ASSISTANT / VETERINARY TECHNICIAN
Essential Functions of the Veterinary Assistant/Technician Include:
Provide quality, compassionate, best-in-class care for our patients, while also maximizing clinic productivity
Assist veterinarians with examinations and properly handle animals before, during, and after procedures
Perform diagnostic imaging such as x-rays and ultrasound
Clean, sterilize, and prepare kennels, exam rooms, and equipment
Maintain and update medical charts, administer medications and treatments, and care for animals during their visit
Professionally communicate basic diagnoses (such as ear infections, skin infections, intestinal parasites, etc.) to pet parents
Additional functions for qualified technicians: Perform dental prophylaxis, place IVCs, venipuncture, and assist with surgeries
Qualifications:
At least six months of prior experience as a Veterinary Assistant or Veterinary Technician
Veterinary Technician licensure (RVT, LVT, CVT) preferred
Must have surgery and dental experience
Lab, medical records, and SOAP knowledge
Ability to read a fecal float, fecal direct, and ear/skin cytology
Comfortable with in-house hematology and chemistry equipment/reference lab
Knowledge of basic canine/feline vaccines and basic vital signs
Skilled in phlebotomy (cephalic and lateral saphenous, jugular; SQ, IM, and IV injections)
Experience with dental prophylaxis
Experience with anesthesia monitoring and recovery
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to read, comprehend and write simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
