We are looking for a hardworking, client-focused, full-time veterinarian to support the growth of our clinics. Our AAHA-accredited veterinary hospitals offer digital radiography, digital dental radiography, ultrasound, in-house laboratory, therapeutic laser, endoscopy, full-service dentistry, and a complete range of soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries. Our Pain Management Centers also offer rehabilitation services.

Veterinarians earn two weeks paid vacation after 12 months, paid sick time, and four floating holidays per year. In addition to our standard benefits, we offer our veterinarians:


Base salary starting at $70,000, and upward based on experience. We have a very competitive production incentive where we target 75% of veterinarian pay as the base salary and a production incentive to be 25% of annual compensation to be commission.
Eligible for non-profit student loan forgiveness programs. Commission accrued every four weeks. This means there are 13 production periods per year. Continuing education expenses - Based on years out of school. This is a total for all expenses incurred and does not carry over into the next fiscal year (Nov-Oct). CE paid time off Based on years out of school. Time off can be used for travel days but is only good for normally scheduled work days. Missouri Veterinary License, DEA and Missouri Controlled Substance License paid. Liability coverage (AVMA-PLIT). Annual Membership - AVMA , GSLVMA , VIN or VetGirl. Other organizations (MVMA or other professional organization of your choice).

Responsible for ensuring high veterinary medical standards and quality of service in the Veterinary Clinic and serves as a clinical practicing veterinarian. Key Duties and Responsibilities


Veterinary Medical Care
Set up veterinary care protocols for animals at the HSPPR Colorado Springs location and establishes medical and general care protocols for the health and well-being of the animals. Ensures sound veterinary medical practices. Sets standards and performs spay/neuter and other surgical procedures for shelter animals. Performs spay/neuter for owned animals through the donor subsidized spay/neuter program. Set standards and performs medical care for shelter and surgery related post adoption patients. Responsible for compliance with all laws pertaining to controlled drugs Responsible for assessing animal health. Forensic examination of animal abuse and neglect cases and necropsy related to Animal Law Enforcement cases. Testifying in court may be required in some cases. Supports HSPPR Community Wellness programs providing wellness services to include examinations, vaccinations and spay and neuter surgeries. Oversees and develops protocols to maintain or improve herd health. Responsible for enhancing professional knowledge and skills. Participates in daily medical rounds.
Staff Development
Responsible for staff development through teaching, mentoring and training. Keep staff informed on latest relevant medical techniques and information and encourage stimulating interchange of medical knowledge. Mentor and train veterinary intern.


Client Services
Investigates and responds to medical concerns and complaints internally and externally and reporting results. Represents the HSPPR in professional and confident manner. Treats everyone with respect and contributes to teamwork.


Communication
Ensures any decisions, policies or procedures are effectively communicated to the appropriate staff and department. Maintains effective communication with staff through daily contact, in scheduled meetings, daily medical rounds, informally or in writing as needed to coordinate and direct medical functions in the shelter and Surgery Center. Experience in animal welfare and shelter operations a plus. Demonstrated success in working with a diverse team of professionals, skilled in managing varied relationships and successful at facilitating collaboration and cooperation. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Communicating effectively, verbally and in writing in a diverse range of audiences and settings. Excellent communication skills including give/receive feedback. Working the hours necessary to accomplish targeted responsibilities. Practices excellent quality medicine and upholds the veterinary code of ethics.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Racing Veterinarian is responsible from providing veterinarian care to horses on site and keep officials informed as to condition and racing worthiness of the horses. Be present in the paddock on the race track during the post parade and at the starting gate until the horses are dispatched from the gate for the race. Inspect any horse when there is a question as the physical condition of such horse. Recommend scratching a horse to the judges if the horse in physically incapable of exerting its best effort to win. Inspect any horse which appears in physical distress during the race or at the finish of the race and report such horse to the judges and the official veterinarian. Refrain from directly treating or prescribing for any horse scheduled to participate at any recognized meeting except in cases of emergency, accident, or injury. Humanely destroy any horse deem to be so seriously injured that it is in the best interest of racing to so act. Place horses on the bleeder list. Will abide by all safety requirements as outlined in the Safety Manual or as required by individual departments and/or job functions. All other duties assigned by management.

QUALFICATIONS

Must have a Veterinarian degree. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
