About this Position
Instruct and assist year-four professional veterinary students. Maintain equipment and supplies inventory in clinical areas. Provide high quality veterinary technical assistance in several clinics/departments of the VTH including small animal medicine and surgery, small animal ICU, equine medicine and surgery, food animal medicine and surgery etc.
Required Qualifications
High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
Two years related experience; or Associate of Science degree in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA accredited veterinary technology program with two years related experience; or Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences or related area; or DVM degree or equivalent.
Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:
Experience in restraint of small animals, administering injections, and placement of IV (peripheral, central, and urinary) catheters is essential. Must have knowledge of equipment used within VTH including, but not limited to: personal computer, telephone, copy machine, diagnostic lab equipment, electrodiagnostic equipment, and ECG, etc. Must be physically capable of lifting animals weighing 50 pounds or greater onto exam tables and into elevated cages.

Position Overview
As an Operations Specialist in Animal Care, your role will be to ensure that proper animal care and husbandry is being provided for all companion animals and aquatic life in the Pet Care Center (PCC). You'll be the primary resource regarding animal care and maintenance. This position will support the achievement of the PCC's budgeted sales and shrink goals. You'll ensure our merchandising and inventory strategies are executed across the Pet Care Center with your primary focus in companion animals and aquatic life. You will ensure the efficient and effective operations of the Pet Care Center in close partnership with the sales team to meet the needs of the guest and their pet/s. You can excel in this role by exhibiting a passion for the welfare, health, and proper care of animals as well as being a positive partner within the whole Pet Care Center team.

* Process register transactions in a way that creates a great experience for each guest.

* Complete and apply training programs to maintain a high level of expertise of their role and educate other PCC partners in animal care and maintenance.

* Evaluate guest inquiries and refers to the Leader on Duty as needed.
* Act as primary resource for guests and other PCC partners regarding all animal education and care.
* Efficiently orders companion animals and aquatic life, supplies and merchandise in partnership with the sales team to maximize sales, margin, and inventory.
* Analyzes department inventory management data and recommends areas for improvement.
* Perform routine housekeeping tasks as required to maintain the professional image and appearance of the companion animal habitat and aquatic areas, to include sweeping/mopping the floors, dusting, cleaning the tanks, facing the merchandise on the shelves, etc.
* Ensures the proper handling and documentation for all relinquished and adoption animals.
* Verifies animal related maintenance tasks are being completed as outlined on the Maintenance Schedules.
* Participates in the completion of all animal and aquatic life related physical inventory counts.
* Adheres to and promotes established safety and loss prevention procedures.
* Performs additional duties and projects as required or assigned with or without regular supervision.

Basic Qualifications
Minimum of one year of experience working with and/or caring for companion animals and aquatic life is required for this position. Qualified applicants will possess a high level of knowledge of companion animals and aquatic life and an aptitude for sales techniques. In addition to having a professional appearance and demeanor, applicants must also demonstrate a keen and genuine interest in animals and their care. Good interpersonal and verbal communication skills are necessary due to the nature of interaction with the public and other partners and leaders within the PCC as well as external veterinary partners.
Certification
Completing and maintaining of the Petco Animal Care Certification program is required in this role.
Education/Skills
In addition to a high school diploma or its equivalent (GED), an applicant must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the areas of mathematics and basic accounting relationships and exhibit exceptional communication skills.
Supervisory Responsibility
* Ensures that the Pet Care Center is opened and / or closed in accordance with established P&Ps as it applies to SFS operations.
* Adhere to and promote established safety procedures for partners, guests, and pets.
Work Environment
The majority of job duties are conducted indoors, although guest carryouts and veterinary visits will require that a partner leave the PCC briefly. Because this position requires bending, kneeling, moving merchandise (up to 50 pounds, as necessary) and standing for long periods of time, there may be risk of injury resulting from not following procedures. Ability and willingness to a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends to meet PCC needs.

About this Position
The College of Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital at Oklahoma State University is seeking an enthusiastic person with a passion for small animals. Successful candidate will provide clinical assistance to professional staff and a variety of treatments to patients admitted to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH). Candidates will have the opportunity to actively participate in one-on-one training of veterinary students, as well as work alongside veterinary specialists to provide clients and patients with the highest standard of care.
This is a full-time position with varying shifts and hours. Shift differentials are available for non-traditional shifts. Every full-time employee receives a full benefits package. This includes health insurance, life insurance, retirement, 13 paid holidays (including one full week off around Christmas), paid annual and sick leave, and more. You also have free access to OSU's gym and fitness centers, employee assistance program, and free professional development through main campus's human resources department.
The VTH is a 145,000 square foot, full-service veterinary teaching hospital providing 24 hour care for all domestic and selected exotic and wildlife species. The VTH admits more than 15,500 clinical cases per year, and hospitalizes 5-8 ICU cases per day. Our hospital is equipped with digital radiography, MRI, CT, ultrasound, endoscopy, 24-hour access to full clinical pathology lab, oxygen cages, pulse oximetry, capnography, I-Stat point-of-care testing, telemetry, blood pressure and central venous pressure monitoring, Pleur-Evac suction units, and ventilator therapy. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to interact with 20 small animal specialists, as well as a supportive group of interns and residents. Required Qualifications
High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
Veterinary Assistant - High school/GED with two years' experience.
Veterinary Technician I - Registered Veterinary Technician or completed associate degree in veterinary technology and will sit for the Oklahoma State Board of Examiner's technician certifying exam and obtain licensure within 120 days of hire.
Veterinary Technician II - Three years' experience as a Veterinary Assistant/Technician or equivalent at an AVMA accredited teaching hospital, or large, multi-clinician private veterinary practice.
Veterinary Technician III - Six years' experience as a Veterinary Assistant/Technician or equivalent at an AVMA accredited teaching hospital, or large, multi-clinician private veterinary practice.

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge: Experience in restraint of small animals, administering injections, and placement of IV (peripheral, central, and urinary) catheters is essential. Our hospital is equipped with digital radiography, MRI, CT, ultrasound, endoscopy, 24-hour access to full clinical pathology lab, oxygen cages, pulse oximetry, capnography, I-Stat point-of-care testing, telemetry, blood pressure and central venous pressure monitoring, Pleur-Evac suction units, and ventilator therapy. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to interact with 20 small animal specialists, as well as a supportive group of interns and residents. Required Qualifications
High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
Veterinary Assistant - High school/GED with two years' experience.
Veterinary Technician I - Registered Veterinary Technician or completed associate degree in veterinary technology and will sit for the Oklahoma State Board of Examiner's technician certifying exam and obtain licensure within 120 days of hire.
Veterinary Technician II - Three years' experience as a Veterinary Assistant/Technician or equivalent at an AVMA accredited teaching hospital, or large, multi-clinician private veterinary practice.
Veterinary Technician III - Six years' experience as a Veterinary Assistant/Technician or equivalent at an AVMA accredited teaching hospital, or large, multi-clinician private veterinary practice.
Senior Veterinary Technician - Eight years' experience as a Veterinary Assistant/Technician or equivalent at an AVMA accredited teaching hospital, or large, multi-clinician private veterinary practice with greater than one year experience within a specific specialty.
Veterinary Technician Specialist I - Registered Veterinary Technician. Veterinary Technician Specialist recognized by NAVTA; or have credentials in specialty that VTH defines as meriting recognition.
Veterinary Technician Specialist II - Must meet all requirements of Veterinary Technician Specialist I. Five years of experience as Veterinary Technician Specialist recognized by NAVTA; or have credentials in specialty that VTH defines as meriting recognition.
Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge: Experience in restraint of small and large animals, administering injections, and placement of IV (peripheral, central, and urinary) catheters is essential. Must have knowledge of equipment used within VTH including, but not limited to: personal computer, telephone, copy machine, laser, video endoscope, diagnostic lab equipment, camera/video camera, electrodiagnostic equipment, etc. Must be physically capable of lifting animals weighing 50 pounds or greater onto exam tablesand into elevated cages.
