About the Role

All hospital veterinarians should work together in a collegial fashion and are expected to behave in a professional and personable manner.
Planning and Problem Solving:
Problem solving is at the heart of veterinary medicine, and it is expected that any successful candidate will possess excellent problem-solving skills that allow expeditious diagnosis of patient problems.

This position will impact the organization by contributing to the growth of a productive practice while focusing on a high-quality standard of care. Consult with specialists on specific medical cases when appropriate.
Participate in public vaccination clinics.
Pursue adequate and appropriate continuing education.
Perform animal necropsies and write reports for Animal Rescue & Control as needed.
On occasion, serve as the after-hours contact for emergencies. Give advice by phone or text to Animal Rescue & Control, the NPVEC and PHS staff.
Perform diagnostic tests including x-ray, blood work, cytology, and fecals.
Provide leadership and direction to Registered Veterinary Technicians, Veterinary Assistants and department volunteers.\
Induce and maintain animals under anesthesia. Operate anesthetic machine and surgical monitoring equipment. Ensure that all animals are monitored while under anesthesia.

SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Director of Medical and Behavior Services and the Lead Veterinarian the Pets In Need (PIN) Associate Veterinarian is responsible for providing high-quality medical care to public owned animals seen through our Community Veterinary Clinic (CVC). The CVC is intended to be an affordable wellness care option for the public that offers annual wellness exams, vaccinations, preventative care, treatment of minor acute health conditions (i.e. skin and/or ear infections), heartworm blood testing, senior blood screens, urinalysis and other basic diagnostics as needed. In addition, the Pets In Need Associate Veterinarian may be asked to develop, advance, and implement protocols, collaborate with the Lead Veterinarian and Director of Medical and Behavior Services to ensure the humane medical treatment of all animals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
* Contributes to medical care and health management programs for Pets In Need's shelter guests, including those temporarily in foster care, focusing on identification, treatment and prevention of health problems thereby increasing adoptions and decreasing adoption returns.
* Performs physical examinations on public owned animals via the CVC with an incremental wellness care approach, provides client consultation and medical advice to clients, makes assessments using SOAP format, creates list of differentials, diagnoses, prescribes laboratory tests when indicated, treatments and preventatives, and provides client follow up as needed.
* Consults with Director of Medical and Behavior Services to ensure PIN follows state and federal laws regarding on site veterinary medicine.
* Maintains accurate and complete medical records in the shelter database (treatments, exams, test results, surgeries, and outcomes) and other records required by local and state laws.
* Provides staff mentoring and coaching for support staff as appropriate.
* Performs other job duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
* A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree. Three years of experience working as a veterinarian preferred.

* Demonstrated ability using Microsoft Office suite.
