Job Description:
The Shoshana is seeking newborn care specialists to provide non-medical support to new parents and their families during the postpartum period, often referred to as the "fourth trimester." Newborn care specialists play a crucial role in supporting families during the early stages of parenthood, ensuring the well-being of both the newborn and the parents.
Key Responsibilities:
Emotional Support: Offering emotional support and reassurance to new parents, helping them navigate the challenges of the postpartum period.
Physical Comfort: Assisting with physical recovery after childbirth, including providing opportunities for rest and personal care.
Infant Care: Demonstrating newborn care techniques, such as feeding, diapering, and soothing the baby.
Household Organization: Assisting with light household duties around the guest's room to allow parents to focus on their recovery and bonding with the baby.
Sibling Support: Helping older siblings adjust to the new family dynamics and providing care if needed.
Referrals: Connecting parents with additional resources and support services as needed.
Qualifications:
Training: Completion of a postpartum doula training program and certification. Dual certification in postpartum care and IBCLC strongly preferred.
Experience: At least 2 years of experience in newborn care, lactation support, or a related field. Nursing experience in antepartum/postpartum or labor & delivery preferred.
Skills: Strong communication, empathy, and organizational skills.
Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of postpartum care, breastfeeding, and newborn health.
Personality: Positive attitude, compassionate, patient, and nurturing demeanor. Empathetic and non-judgmental approach to supporting new parents.
Hours: Must be able to work flexible hours.
Background: Must be able to pass a background check.
CPR: Certification required.
