Position Overview
As an Operations Specialist in Animal Care, your role will be to ensure that proper animal care and husbandry is being provided for all companion animals and aquatic life in the Pet Care Center (PCC). Position Responsibilities

Basic Qualifications
Minimum of one year of experience working with and/or caring for companion animals and aquatic life is required for this position. In addition to having a professional appearance and demeanor, applicants must also demonstrate a keen and genuine interest in animals and their care. Good interpersonal and verbal communication skills are necessary due to the nature of interaction with the public and other partners and leaders within the PCC as well as external veterinary partners.
Certification
Completing and maintaining of the Petco Animal Care Certification program is required in this role.
Education/Skills
In addition to a high school diploma or its equivalent (GED), an applicant must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the areas of mathematics and basic accounting relationships and exhibit exceptional communication skills.
Supervisory Responsibility
* Ensures that the Pet Care Center is opened and / or closed in accordance with established P&Ps as it applies to SFS operations.
* Adhere to and promote established safety procedures for partners, guests, and pets.
Work Environment
The majority of job duties are conducted indoors, although guest carryouts and veterinary visits will require that a partner leave the PCC briefly. Because this position requires bending, kneeling, moving merchandise (up to 50 pounds, as necessary) and standing for long periods of time, there may be risk of injury resulting from not following procedures. Ability and willingness to a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends to meet PCC needs.

A veterinary technician assistant (VTA) plays a vital daily role in our hospital, as our VTA staff members are (in many cases) our frontline medical staff regarding the assessment and medical/nursing care of our patients. In general, our VTA staff is responsible for general patient care and comfort, but they also are very important regarding the diagnostic evaluation of our patients as well as their medical care. Our VTA staff also plays an important role in basic client communication regarding the medical needs of their canine and feline family members. This list includes many (but not all!) of the many vital patient and client care duties provided by our VTA staff:
Restrain patients for physical examinations/procedures for specialty and emergency service patients. Such procedures include orthopedic/neurological examinations, blood/urine collection, radiographs, and ultrasound.
Assist ER and specialty technicians and clinicians during the performance of more advanced diagnostic tests and therapies such as CT/MRI scanning, endoscopy, chemotherapy administration, surgical prep, and anesthetized/sedated patient monitoring.
Work with ICU technicians in setting up patient beds for in-patients.
Assisting technicians with obtaining patient medical histories.
Obtaining patient vital parameters (i.e. temperature, pulse rate, respiratory rate).
For certain specialty departments, assist with patient drop-off, hospital admission, and hospital discharge, including review of patient discharge instructions and medication and follow-up requirements.
Assist specialty technicians with daily appointment flow.
Stock supplies and instruments (i.e. catheters, scrub, syringes, IV fluid bags, fluid lines, bandage material, etc.).
General maintenance and cleaning of medical equipment (i.e. surgical instruments, endoscopes, autoclave).
Performance of basic in-house diagnostic testing, such as PCV/TS, blood glucose, lactate, urine specific gravity, and cytology sample preparation.
Submission of laboratory samples to diagnostic laboratories (on-site and send-out).

Essential Job Functions

Key Responsibilities
Support veterinarians and credentialed technicians in delivering high-quality emergency and critical care
