This role is 90% technical and 10% administrative and is non-exempt.


Reports to: Clinical Supervisor

Direct Reports: Technicians and veterinary assistants in the surgery team

Responsibilities (in addition to technical responsibilities):
• Understands workflow of surgery department and ensures efficient daily operation.
• Provides input with problem-solving efforts for daily operations.
• Participates in scheduling and planning for effective staffing to meet surgery department needs.
• Develops constructive and cooperative working relationships across the hospital.
• Encourages and builds mutual trust, respect, communication and cooperation among team members.
• Advocates satisfaction of internal and external customers.
• Serves as the hospital “go to” in accordance with assigned duty schedule.
• Coordinates and provides training for surgery technicians.
• Collaborates with staff at all levels and departments to streamline delivery of services without compromising care or hospitality.
• Participates in hiring and onboarding of staff and performance reviews.
• Coordinates with doctors, technicians, and Hospital Services Manager to ensure equipment needs are met.

Education, License and Job Requirements:
• Associates degree or equivalent work experience required, Bachelor’s degree preferred
• 3 or more years of experience as a Veterinary Technician, CVT preferred

Are you a skilled veterinary technician who loves both learning and sharing your knowledge and is ready to join a busy team seeing cats and dogs with a wide variety of issues requiring orthopedic and soft tissue surgical intervention? We are looking for our next team member in Small Animal Surgery! Nursing staff in our service assist with appointments, small procedures under sedation and anesthesia and in both sterile and aseptic conditions, diagnostic workups including digital radiography and CT, and and a host of other surgical nursing skills in addition to client communication. Members of our team work closely with boarded veterinary surgeons, residents/interns, and veterinary students in a fast paced teaching and learning environment We offer competitive wages, benefits including health insurance and paid leave and holidays, and a team-oriented approach to each day.

An individual in this position must possess excellent communication skills and be proactive in determining the needs of the hospital. A successful applicant should enjoy learning new things and can quickly adapt to a changing environment. They need to possess a good base knowledge of veterinary medicine and express a positive attitude in their daily work. The individual must be able to communicate effectively, demonstrate critical thinking and professionalism.

This is a full-time, benefited position and is considered essential personnel. A post-offer education verification, background check, and health assessment are required.
Expected Salary:

$18.00 - $25.00 hourly.

Veterinary Technician I:

High school diploma or equivalent and one year of relevant experience.

Veterinary Technician II:

Credentialed veterinary technician.

+ Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.

+ Utilize their ability to place peripheral intravenous catheter in cephalic vein.

+ Performs physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.

+ Understands normal vital parameters and alerts doctor when abnormal.

+ Able to set up intravenous fluids.

+ Administers subcutaneous fluids.

+ Can operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and can troubleshoot errors.

+ Able to disconnect and connectpatientfrom intravenous fluids aseptically.

+ Ability to monitor patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.

This will be four 10 hour shifts with on call obligations. Day shift, but exact time TBD.
