Key Responsibilities:
Client Communication: Provide status updates for hospitalized patients, home care instructions, pre- and post-op instructions, and medication administration guidance. Address client medical questions with confidence and direct complex inquiries to veterinarians.
Client Education & Support: Educate clients on preventative medicine, wellness care by age, vaccine requirements, laboratory procedures, and support hospital financial policies by preparing estimates and discussing financial commitments.
Customer Service: Greet clients, escort them and their pets into exam rooms, ensure smooth transitions to the front desk, and promote the practice's products, programs, and services.
Animal Handling & Care: Restrain animals safely and compassionately, assist veterinarians in medical, surgical, and dental procedures, prepare patients for surgery, administer anesthesia, monitor patients during surgery and recovery, and administer fluids.
Facility & Equipment Maintenance: Properly care for all surgical materials, maintain hospital equipment and inventory, and ensure the surgery room, ICU area, exam rooms, and treatment areas are prepared and maintained.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed patient records using a paperless medical record system, ensuring all procedures, vaccinations, and notes are documented for proper billing.
Pharmacy Assistance: Assist with dispensing medications as directed by the veterinarian, prepare prescription labels, and appropriately package medication.
Safety & Technical Skills: Follow DEA, OSHA, and hospital safety guidelines; administer SQ, IM, and IV injections; perform laboratory tests, radiographs, and electrocardiograms; place IV catheters; perform emergency treatments such as bleeding control and external cardiac massage.
Qualifications:
Licensed as a Veterinary Technician (LVT).
Will also accept new grads from an accredited tech program!
Ability to handle animals safely and compassionately.
Knowledgeable about common disease states and able to alert veterinarians to changes in patient conditions.
Familiarity with DEA, OSHA, and hospital safety guidelines.

Boght and Oakwood Veterinary Clinics are privately owned practices, located in Latham and Troy, New York respectively. David A. Wagoner DVM (RUSVM 90) started working at the clinics when he was in high school. Dr. Wagoner bought into the practice in 1995 and became the sole owner in 2011. Dr. Wagoner's main focus is exceptional patient and client care at a reasonable price.
It is important to note that Boght and Oakwood boast veteran veterinarians and staff who will greatly assist in the acquisition of a new technician. Our practices are fully equipped for diagnostics, with in-house laboratory testing, flexible endoscopy, ultrasound services, and digital radiography. Technicians are expected to see a diverse case load, and have the dedicated support of full time, experienced veterinarians and staff.
Position Overview
The licensed veterinary technician is the veterinarian's primary medical support. They begin the examination procedure and continue to assist the doctor throughout the examination, diagnosis and treatment phases. They aid the veterinarians in achieving greater efficiency by relieving them of technical work and administrative detail. They have a very significant role in communicating with and educating clients about their pets.
Qualifications/Requirements

· High school diploma or equivalent
· Veterinary Technician License (LVT) required.
· Previous On-The-Job Training desirable when not a LVT.
Experience Requirements
· Two years experience as veterinary technician or assistant preferred, but not required.

Basic Qualifications
Minimum of one year of experience working with and/or caring for companion animals and aquatic life is required for this position. Maintain compliance with checklists, controlled drug logs, equipment maintenance, and supply inventory for both surgery and laboratory areas.
Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate with vendors (e.g., IDEXX) and IT as needed.
Ensure accurate submission, tracking, and recording of all laboratory samples and results.
Create and maintain staff schedules with leadership team members.
Provide leadership through professional communication, participation in staff meetings, serving as a liaison between staff and leadership, and assisting with employee concerns and disciplinary matters.
Collaborate with the leadership team to ensure adherence to hospital protocols and assist with quarterly inventory counts.
Key Responsibilities:
Client Communication: Provide status updates for hospitalized patients, home care instructions, pre- and post-op instructions, and medication administration guidance. Address client medical questions with confidence and direct complex inquiries to veterinarians.
Client Education & Support: Educate clients on preventative medicine, wellness care by age, vaccine requirements, laboratory procedures, and support hospital financial policies by preparing estimates and discussing financial commitments.
Customer Service: Greet clients, escort them and their pets into exam rooms, ensure smooth transitions to the front desk, and promote the practice's products, programs, and services.
Animal Handling & Care: Restrain animals safely and compassionately, assist veterinarians in medical, surgical, and dental procedures, prepare patients for surgery, administer anesthesia, monitor patients during surgery and recovery, and administer fluids.
Facility & Equipment Maintenance: Properly care for all surgical materials, maintain hospital equipment and inventory, and ensure the surgery room, ICU area, exam rooms, and treatment areas are prepared and maintained.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed patient records using a paperless medical record system, ensuring all procedures, vaccinations, and notes are documented for proper billing.
Pharmacy Assistance: Assist with dispensing medications as directed by the veterinarian, prepare prescription labels, and appropriately package medication.
Safety & Technical Skills: Follow DEA, OSHA, and hospital safety guidelines; administer SQ, IM, and IV injections; perform laboratory tests, radiographs, and electrocardiograms; place IV catheters; perform emergency treatments such as bleeding control and external cardiac massage.
Qualifications:
Required: Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) in the state of New York.
Proven experience as a veterinary technician, with prior leadership or training/mentorship responsibilities preferred.
Strong clinical proficiency, including safe and compassionate animal handling, anesthesia monitoring, dental procedures, and surgical support.
Ability to assess patient status, recognize abnormalities, and communicate effectively with veterinarians and team members.
Solid understanding of DEA, OSHA, and hospital safety guidelines, with the ability to ensure team compliance.
Excellent communication, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills.
Strong organizational abilities with experience maintaining inventory, equipment, and workflow.

Administer medications, monitor vital signs and trends, provide respiratory support, and manage oxygen therapy when indicated
Collaborate closely with board-certified surgeons, criticalists, anesthesiologists, VTS-certified technicians, and an advanced-skilled nursing team to deliver integrated, patient-centered care
Provide direct support for both the surgeon and patient from initial consultation through post-operative recovery and discharge
Communicate clearly and empathetically with clients during consultations, daily updates, and discharge discussions
Contribute to a respectful, team-oriented hospital culture grounded in shared purpose, clinical excellence, and mutual trust
