As the next Associate DVM at our practice, no two days will look alike, but here's some common responsibilities we ask of our veterinarian team.
Partner with clients: We have excellent client compliance, which gives us (and you) the opportunity to do "real" medicine
Provide a Fear Free experience: Our staff is trained in Fear Free patient handling and offers pre-visit calming kits, sedation (as needed), cuddles, and squeezable cheese as a treat-whatever works best for each pet!

Scheduling and work/life balance:
This is a full-time, Monday-Saturday role (4-10s). There are no on-call services or emergency hours required for this role. With that said, we believe flex time is key. Our team is cross-trained, and everyone is willing to cover shifts if something fun or urgent comes up. Our doctors will trade days too so they can have fun, relax, and vacation. Speaking of vacation, we're less than 4 hours from the beaches of Rocky Point Mexico and 6 hours from San Diego!

DUTIES
Assists in maintenance of Ranch inventory necessary for animal care and managing subcontracts for maintenance of the Ranch property. Ensures that veterinary care is provided, and instructions are maintained.
Responsible for the instruction and oversight of clients as they learn to feed and care for animals on the Ranch. Will be responsible for oversight of all aspects of the horses involved in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) and Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) including ensuring the safety of the horses and participants during sessions.
Responsible for management of the health of the horses as it relates to their participation in equine assisted psychotherapy/learning. Maintains physical health and good disposition of horses through conditioning and training. Ability to be certified through EAGALA (must show 6000 hours of documented Equine Direct Care Service)
Performs Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) based upon the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA) model of EAP as the Equine Specialist (ES) member of the team.
Participates in EAP session planning in collaboration with the Mental Health (MH) member of the treatment team.
Maintains member records according to established guidelines and procedures and will work with members to instruct animal care activities.
The following duties involve property care to maintain a clean, safe environment for clients and animals:
maintaining feed and hay inventory, handle ordering
monitoring cleaning and inventory of tack
maintaining order in barn area
Manages subcontracts for the maintenance of the horse property.
Manages subcontracts for the maintenance of veterinary and other animal care.

* Verifies animal related maintenance tasks are being completed as outlined on the Maintenance Schedules.
* Participates in the completion of all animal and aquatic life related physical inventory counts.

* Performs additional duties and projects as required or assigned with or without regular supervision.

Basic Qualifications
Minimum of one year of experience working with and/or caring for companion animals and aquatic life is required for this position. Qualified applicants will possess a high level of knowledge of companion animals and aquatic life and an aptitude for sales techniques. In addition to having a professional appearance and demeanor, applicants must also demonstrate a keen and genuine interest in animals and their care. Good interpersonal and verbal communication skills are necessary due to the nature of interaction with the public and other partners and leaders within the PCC as well as external veterinary partners.
Certification
Completing and maintaining of the Petco Animal Care Certification program is required in this role.
Education/Skills
In addition to a high school diploma or its equivalent (GED), an applicant must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the areas of mathematics and basic accounting relationships and exhibit exceptional communication skills.
Supervisory Responsibility
* Ensures that the Pet Care Center is opened and / or closed in accordance with established P&Ps as it applies to SFS operations.

Work Environment
The majority of job duties are conducted indoors, although guest carryouts and veterinary visits will require that a partner leave the PCC briefly. Because this position requires bending, kneeling, moving merchandise (up to 50 pounds, as necessary) and standing for long periods of time, there may be risk of injury resulting from not following procedures. Ability and willingness to a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends to meet PCC needs.
