Highland Pet Hospital, a privately owned small animal hospital, serving the Bloomington-Normal community for over 60 years, is seeking a full-time, part-time, or relief veterinarian to join our team. Our small animal hospital partners with the Animal Emergency Clinic which allows for emergency critical care opportunities as well. Current diagnostics include digital radiography, in-house Idexx laboratory, ultrasound, and Ezyvet software system.
Compensation Information:
Full-time DVM Salary Range: $90,000 to $250,000.
Compensation is based on the chosen schedule, with potential for additional revenue-based income.
ER shifts, which include nights, weekends, and holidays, offer higher compensation.
Weekday shifts have a lower pay rate.

Veterinary Teaching Hospital Responsible for providing standard paramedical technical support and nursing care in a courteous and professional manner for the Intermediate Care Ward, Intensive Care Unit, and Small Animal Isolation Ward at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. In addition, this position may be asked to assist in other areas of the hospital based on operational need. Due to the teaching nature of the hospital, this position will supervise and instruct professional students and veterinary technician students in diagnostic and therapeutic techniques; as well as, emergency procedures. Learn to provide standard paramedical technical and patient support, nursing care and instruction in a professional and courteous manner.
* Work as a team with students, interns, residents and faculty to provide skilled nursing care for all patients including, but not limited to post-surgical, chronic conditions, and isolation, which may include methicillin resistant organisms and zoonotic diseases.
* Use problem solving skills to assist with patient care in both emergent and non-emergent situations.
* Recognize physical abnormalities such as, but not limited to; cardiac murmurs and arrhythmias, abnormal pulmonary auscultation, respiratory difficulty and distress, change in mentation, abnormal physical exam findings, and signs of shock.

* Perform placement of peripheral intravenous catheters (IVCs) and the placement of both central venous jugular catheters and peripherally inserted central catheters.
* Maintain, trouble shoot the care and use of intravenous (IV) fluid and syringe pumps, indwelling urinary catheters, Jackson-Pratt grenade style drains, central line catheters, peripheral IVCs, feeding tubes, oxygen cage, nasal oxygen, nebulization, and stable temporary and permanent tracheostomy care.
* Assist in calculating drug dosages and fluid/CRI rates.
* Set up and administer IV fluids, continuous rate infusions (CRI's) and other medications as directed by the veterinarian.
* Aseptically prepare blood products for administration, monitor appropriately during transfusion and record monitoring parameters.
* Set up and administer enteral feedings through nasogastric (NG), nasoesophageal (NE), esophagostomy (E)-tube, gastrostomy (G)-tube, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG), or jejunostomy (J)-tubes, as directed by the veterinarian.

Veterinary Teaching Hospital The Veterinary Technician will be responsible for providing standard paramedical technical support and nursing care in a courteous and professional manner in Zoo Medicine of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Based on operational need, may be asked to assist in other areas of the hospital, including Primary Care and Urgent Care. Due to the teaching nature of the hospital, this position will supervise and instruct professional students and veterinary technician students in diagnostic and therapeutic techniques and emergency procedures.
Learn to provide standard paramedical technical support, nursing care and instruction in a professional and courteous manner for Zoo Med and Primary Care patients.
* Provide skilled nursing care for patients including emergent, critical, pre and post-surgical, isolation, acute and chronic disease.
* Administer medications and fluids under the direct or written instructions of the primary veterinarian.
* Collect and submit blood (venous and arterial), urine, and fecal samples.
* Collect bacterial and fungal samples and inoculate prepackaged media.
* Record clinical signs, diagnosis and treatments in patient medical records.
* Recognize and problem-solve critical, emergent and non-emergent situations.

* Set up and show to administer feedings via NE, NG, PEG, E-tube and force feedings.
* Administer controlled substances by the orders of a veterinarian.
* Orient, direct and instruct veterinary staff and students with treatments, protocols, patient set-up and the use of specialized equipment such as telemetry, rectal probes, direct and indirect blood pressures and Pleuravacs, defibrillator and oxygen cages.
* Suggest patient care strategies to clinicians including advanced care and procedures.
* Recognize physiological abnormalities such as cardiac arrhythmias, pulmonary edema, renal failure, hypotension, shock and other advanced disease processes quickly.
* Perform fecal floats, wet mounts and general cytology.
* Perform radiographs
* Work as a team with students, interns, residents and faculty to assess and treat patients.

* Clean/sterilize/maintain all Zoo Medicine areas.
* Stock exam rooms, surgery prep and surgery suite.

Learn to maintain communications for the service with clients and referring veterinarians and enter information into our Health Information system.

The handling of any animal presents some element of risk or injury. Persons allergic to animal dander, dust, pollen, hay, etc., may experience discomfort in this position. Due to the teaching nature of the hospital, this position will supervise and instruct professional students and veterinary technician students in diagnostic and therapeutic techniques as well as emergency procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Learn to provide standard paramedical technical support in a professional and courteous manner.
* Work as a team with students, interns, residents and faculty to provide skilled nursing care for all patients including, but not limited to emergencies, critical care, post-surgical, acute and chronic conditions, and isolation, which may include methicillin resistant organisms and zoonotic diseases.
* Perform patient triage, patient history, obtain approval for initial stabilization and resuscitation orders from the owner.
* Use problem solving skills to assist with patient care in both emergent and non-emergent situations.
* Recognize physical abnormalities such as, but not limited to; cardiac murmurs and arrhythmias, abnormal pulmonary auscultation, respiratory difficulty and distress, change in mentation, abnormal physical exam findings, and signs of shock.

* Assist veterinarians with variety of procedures including abdominocentesis, thoracocentesis, pericardiocentesis, wound care, chest tube placement, nasogastric/nasoesophageal tube placement and unblocking urinary obstructions.
* Perform placement of peripheral intravenous catheters (IVCs) and the placement of both central venous jugular catheters and peripherally inserted central catheters.
* Perform a variety of procedures including indwelling urinary catheter placement, direct arterial blood pressure monitoring, continuous ECG monitoring, and nasal oxygen tube placement.
* Maintain, trouble shoot the care and use of intravenous (IV) fluid and syringe pumps, indwelling urinary catheters, Jackson-Pratt grenade style drains, chest tubes, continuous chest tube suction (Pleuravac), central line catheters, peripheral IVCs, feeding tubes, oxygen cage, nasal oxygen, nebulization, and temporary and permanent tracheostomy care.
* Assist in calculating drug dosages and fluid/CRI rates.
* Set up and administer IV fluids, continuous rate infusions (CRI's) and other medications as directed by the veterinarian.
* Aseptically prepare blood products for administration, monitor appropriately during transfusion and record monitoring parameters.
* Set up and administer enteral feedings through nasogastric (NG), nasoesophageal (NE), esophagostomy (E)-tube, gastrostomy (G)-tube, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG), or jejunostomy (J)-tubes, as directed by the veterinarian. Perform treatments and administer medications under the direct or written orders of the veterinarian.
* Record treatments, procedures, supplies, and thorough notes on patient's medical record.
* Record and enter charges for supplies and procedures into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
* Maintain ECC patient logs.
* Learn to provide instruction in a professional and courteous manner.
