Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues. Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR. Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration. Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels. Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters. Communicate with the pet owner about the status of the patient, as directed by the veterinarian. Maintain equipment by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining equipment supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs. Maintain inventory, place orders for needed supplies, verify, and maintain receipts. Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional journals. Release pets to their owners as directed; ensure that every animal released is clean and properly groomed before their release. Understand and carry out oral and written directions. Perform other duties as assigned by Manager or practice. Qualifications (Required) High school diploma or GED. Minimum of 2 years of working in the veterinary field as a Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant. Must have experience and comfort with surgery and anesthesia including for critical patients. Essential Job Functions Provide nursing care for critically ill hospitalized patients in conjunction with specialty and emergency veterinarians Participate in nurse rounds Triage incoming patients presenting on emergency Assess patient stability and obtain patient vital signs Perform diagnostics, including in-hours laboratory testing and digital radiography, and treatments of emergency and hospitalized patients Perform hourly patient assessment and monitoring Observe patients and recognize changes in status Place peripheral and central catheters Perform venipuncture Restrain patients for exams and treatments Set up and administer IV and SQ fluids Perform client communication and education including patient discharges Maintain urinary catheters Bandage removal and application Perform suture and drain removal Perform drug dose calculations for injectable medications and CRIs Administer injectable medications (IV, IM, SQ) Administer other medications (PO, OU, OD) Maintain isolation protocols for infectious patients Basic wound cleaning and care Prep patients for anesthetized procedures Prep equipment and supplies for anesthetized procedures Administer injectable and inhalant anesthesia Monitor patients while under anesthesia and maintain a monitoring log Interpret vital readings during anesthesia Monitor patients during recovery from anesthesia Assist in CPCR Education and Experience ▪ 2+ years of experience in the veterinary field required ▪ Preference will be given to an individual desiring to pursue a degree in veterinary technology or animal science TVRH offers a comprehensive benefits package in addition to a hiring bonus, competitive salary, and relocation reimbursement allowance: Health, vision, and dental HSA and FSA Plans Short-term and long-term disability Critical Illness, Accident and Hospital Indemnity Life Insurance 401k with employer match Paid Parental Leave Internal benefits include CE allowance, veterinary services discount, and uniform allowance.
