In this role, you will:
Provide exceptional patient and client care by ensuring an efficient exam room workflow.
Maintain accurate, detailed medical records.
Review treatment plans and discharge instructions with clients, answering questions with empathy and clarity.
Support the veterinarian's orders during outpatient care and procedures to ensure the highest level of patient care.
This is a full-time position, with flexible scheduling options, and availability needed Monday-Friday. NO WEEKENDS! Must be available to work 1 closing shift per week (until 8:30p).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Performs all duties in accordance with government regulations and hospital policies and procedures.
• Prepares and maintains the exam rooms and treatment areas.
• Assists the doctor in medical, surgical and dental procedures; prepares patients for surgery; assists the doctor in administering anesthetics; monitors patients during surgery and recovery; administers fluids.
• Gives injections and administers oral medications.
• Performs emergency procedures such as control of bleeding, resuscitation with oxygen, and external cardiac massage.
• Assists in restraining pets when necessary.
• Performs clinical laboratory procedures such as fecal flotation exams, heartworm checks, skin scrapings, urinalysis, and fungal cultures; draws blood for laboratory analysis; maintains file of lab test results and ensures that test results are recorded in patient records.
• Takes radiographs and performs EKGs.
• Admits and discharges patients on the doctor's orders. Counsels clients on various aspects of animal care; explains dosage/purpose of medications; reinforces the proper care and procedures that should be followed at home; makes follow-up calls to clients.
• Understands usage and dosage for commonly used prescription drugs including heartworm preventative and prescription flea control products and can readily explain them to clients.
• Properly cleans all surgical materials after they are used; keeps the operating room stocked and prepared for surgery.
• Maintains an appropriate inventory of all drugs and medical supplies.
• Assists other staff members as required.
• Performs other duties as determined by the doctors.
• Prepares estimates for clients

Marshall Farms' Veterinary Technician participates in all veterinary technical responsibilities for beagles, ferrets, minipigs and cats. The Veterinary Technician reports to the Veterinary Technician Supervisor. The veterinary staff provides professional support and guidance.
The Veterinary Technician completes all tasks on the basis of priority, as communicated by the Veterinary Technician Supervisor, and as determined by the Veterinary staff and the Director of Production. The Veterinary Technician is responsible for ensuring that all tasks are completed as directed and documented according to required procedures.
Animal Health
Ensures, in the course of duties, that all veterinary matters are brought to the attention of the veterinary staff.
Conducts pre-shipment quality examinations of beagles and cats; these examinations are conducted in strict adherence to written protocol to ensure compliance with all customer and internal requirements for shipment. Collects and runs bloodwork and performs laboratory tasks as needed.
Participates in the conduct of cardiac auscultation and general health examination of all potential beagle breeders.
Administers vaccines across all species.
Conducts a formal assessment of skin health in all beagles at the required age.
Assists the veterinary and/or production staff with elective or non-elective surgical/ anesthetic procedures as necessary.
Conducts reviews, as required by the sales, production, or veterinary staff, of all “hold” and “reserve” orders for beagles to determine state of health and eligibility for sale.

Conducts semi-annual FELASA testing in beagles, cats and minipigs, ensuring that samples are properly collected, submitted, and results presented to the veterinary staff for review and summarization.

Education/ Licensure:

Competency Requirements:

The Veterinary Technician has a mastery level of all areas of Animal Care including basic and intensive care, dosage calculations and administration of medications. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* Clinical Duties - develops and implements preventive health and clinical medicine program; performs medical procedures including surgery, diagnostic and regulatory tests, treatments, and necropsy analysis; ensures compliance with laws; maintains medical records; approves enrichment and browse.
* Personnel Management - provides leadership and management of the zoo veterinary team; develops duties and schedules for the veterinary staff; ensures compliance with zoo policies and safety procedures; assists with development of zoo staff training programs and staff development.

Minimum Requirements
* Doctorate degree in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or a VMD degree from an AVMA accredited approved college or university required.
* Completion of an approved residency in Zoo Veterinary Medicine required.
* Five (5) years or more of work experience as a veterinarian in a zoo or wildlife park required.
* One (1) year or more supervisory/management work experience required.
* Valid driver's license required and must be maintained throughout incumbency.
* USDA certification for cervid and elephant TB testing required or must be obtained within one year of hire.
* State of New York Veterinary License required or must be obtained within three (3) months of hire.
* USDA category II accreditation required or must be obtained within three (3) months of hire.
