Wagoner DVM (RUSVM 90) started working at the clinics when he was in high school. Dr. Wagoner bought into the practice in 1995 and became the sole owner in 2011. Dr. Wagoner's main focus is exceptional patient and client care at a reasonable price. It is important to note that Boght and Oakwood boast veteran veterinarians and staff who will greatly assist in the acquisition of a new technician. Our practices are fully equipped for diagnostics, with in-house laboratory testing, flexible endoscopy, ultrasound services, and digital radiography. Technicians are expected to see a diverse case load, and have the dedicated support of full time, experienced veterinarians and staff. Position Overview The licensed veterinary technician is the veterinarian's primary medical support. They begin the examination procedure and continue to assist the doctor throughout the examination, diagnosis and treatment phases. They aid the veterinarians in achieving greater efficiency by relieving them of technical work and administrative detail. They have a very significant role in communicating with and educating clients about their pets. Qualifications/Requirements Education and License Requirements · High school diploma or equivalent · Veterinary Technician License (LVT) required. · Previous On-The-Job Training desirable when not a LVT. Experience Requirements · Two years experience as veterinary technician or assistant preferred, but not required. Personal Requirements · Minimum of 18 years old. · Genuinely enjoys working with animals and is able to deal with them even when they are stressed, ill or in pain. · Can stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis. · Is well-spoken and approaches his/her job duties in a mature nature. · Is able to work well as part of a team and works well with all levels of hospital team members. · Has excellent client communication skills. · Physical Effort: Work requires lifting and carrying animals (will be assisted by other staff members in lifting animals over 40 lbs). Walks or stands for extended periods or time; frequently works in a bent position. · Working conditions: May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises and animal feces. May be exposed to bites, scratches and contagious diseases. Performance Expectations · Can provide compassionate care to patients and clients. · Can conduct oneself in a confident and professional manner even when stressed and/or focused on individual tasks. · Can legibly keep accurate medical records in accordance to hospital policy. · Can prepare and maintain the exam rooms and treatment areas. · Can perform physical assessments, recording observations in clinical records · Can effectively restrain pets, regardless of difficulty or size. · Understands all common vaccinations and vaccination protocols and can educate clients accordingly. · Understands the importance of a clean and orderly facility, makes sure to clean or organize daily. · Maintains positive, cooperative relationships with other employees and understands the importance of each position. · Is proficient at giving SQ, IM and IV injections. · Can handle client's medical questions with confidence and accuracy, and directs clients to veterinarians when appropriate. · Can prepare estimates for procedures and discuss financial commitments with clients supporting hospital financial policies. · Can explain necessary follow-up procedures and homecare instructions to clients. · Understands usage, dosage, and common side-effects for commonly used prescription drugs and can readily explain them to clients. · Can maintain an appropriate inventory of all medical supplies as determined by our inventory manager. · Can assist the veterinarian in medical, surgical and dental procedures; prepares patients for surgery; administers anesthesia; monitors patients during surgery and recovery; administers fluids. · Can properly care for all surgical materials; keeps the operating room properly stocked and prepared for surgery. · Can perform emergency procedures such as control of bleeding, resuscitation with oxygen, opening airways, and external cardiac massage. · Can perform clinical laboratory procedures such as fecal exams, heartworm checks, skin scrapings, urinalysis, and fungal cultures; draws blood for laboratory analysis; maintains files of lab test results and ensures that test results are recorded in patient records. · Can effectively position for and take radiographs. · Can perform electrocardiograms. · Can place IV catheters and properly care for them, and understands the use and care of IV pumps. · Knows common disease states and can alert veterinarians when symptoms change or when concerns arise with hospitalized patients. · Can prepare a patient and proficiently use an ultrasound machine for ultrasound procedures. · Can admit patients following hospital policy and doctors written orders. · Can discharge patients based on the veterinarian's orders, ensuring that patients are well groomed and in a medically appropriate state. · Can run tech appointments alone or with the help of a veterinary assistant

    The ARC (Animal Recovery Center) facility is dedicated to the recovery and rehabilitation of victims of cruelty and neglect admitted through NYPD and the ASPCA's Humane Law Enforcement (HLE) and Community Engagement (CE) programs. Our dedicated team of more than 45 sheltering, medical, and animal behavior professionals work closely with the ASPCA Animal Hospital, Forensics, Legal Advocacy and Investigations, Behavioral Sciences, Shelter Medicine Services, Community Engagement, Placement, and the Adoption Center teams to ensure coordinated response and operations, and holistic, balanced, high quality care for the animals we serve. The Licensed Veterinary Technician at the ASPCA Animal Recovery Center (ARC) is responsible for a broad range of medical and administrative tasks in ARC that serves animals admitted through the NYPD Partnership program. The LVT delivers compassionate nursing care and has a broad knowledge of animal science, medicine, and husbandry, including a basic knowledge of pharmacology, shelter medicine, behavior, and proficient mathematical skills. One of the most critical functions of this role is serving as a member of a team of medical, behavior and sheltering operations personnel, all dedicated to working together to provide holistic care for victims of cruelty and neglect. The schedule is Sundays-Wednesdays from 9a-7p. Responsibilities: Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Nursing and Shelter Population Care (50%) Possess in depth knowledge and understanding of veterinary medical concepts Care for up to 40 cats and dogs per day. Provide compassionate and quality patient care at all times utilizing Fear Free/Low Stress handling, Proficiency in various technical nursing skills, including, but not limited to, venipuncture, catheter placement, intubation, anesthesia monitoring, diagnostic imaging, critical care, pharmacology, and dentistry. Possess critical thinking and multi-tasking skills Ability to prioritize and re-prioritize based on hospital, ARC and new case needs Be familiar with infectious diseases, including their prevention and steps to reduce or eliminate transmission Administer injections, animal vaccinations, medications, treatments, and supportive care measures as directed by departmental Standard Operating Procedures and attending Veterinarian. Perform venipuncture, run diagnostic tests, and administer fluids as needed. Maintain and compile weekly order of medical supplies inventory, including emergency drugs. Ensure that supplies are in-date. Ensure that all structures and equipment are functional. When equipment is not working properly report to the appropriate team or department for timely repair. Maintain all necessary logs, inventory, DTM plates and patient records and checklists. Create and manage accurate treatment sheets, surgery and procedure requests and medication orders Stay current in knowledge of emergency drugs and protocols. Accurately communicate information about an animal's condition to the direct care team. Support the Medical Supervisor and other veterinarians in the planning and performance of humane euthanasia.
