About the Role:
The ER Veterinary Triage Technician's primary responsibility is to triage patients as they present to the Emergency Room according to triage levels. Assess pets and provide immediate lifesaving care under the direction of the ER doctor as required for critical patients. Provides history, vitals, and concerns to doctors to assist in the timely and appropriate management of emergency patients. Works with float technicians and assistants to perform diagnostics, execute a treatment plan and/or hospitalize the patient. Communicate medical updates, financial, and treatment plans to owners.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Provides excellent patient care to every patient
Triage patients as they come into the ER with appropriate medical decision making and escalation to ER doctor as appropriate.
Obtaining history and vital signs of the pet
Assist DVM's with exams, treatments and procedures
Immediately respond to STAT calls and follow the appropriate patient care protocols
Perform standard technician duties including patient restraint, venipuncture, SQ Fluids, radiographs, medication administration as ordered by a veterinarian, obtain and process laboratory samples, handle and dispense medications by veterinarian orders
Perform sedation and anesthesia according to established hospital protocols (induction, maintenance, monitoring and recovery).
Maintain accurate paperless medical records utilizing EzyVet and Smartflow
Demonstrate working knowledge of financial and charging practices including creating estimates and discussing with the owners, collecting payment and discharging patients.
Collaborate with all departments across the hospital to ensure that all patients are receiving the best possible patient care
Demonstrate compassion and care in all interactions
Attend department and staff meetings
Contribute to the overall needs, cleanliness and organization of the hospital.
Other duties as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
At least 1 year of Veterinary Technician experience required
High school diploma or equivalent
Colorado Registered Veterinary Technician or the ability to become registered upon hire
Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus!
Preferred Qualifications:
At least 1 Veterinary Technician experience in an Emergency or Specialty Practice
Ability to multitask and anticipate needs
Excellent communication skills in all areas including clients, staff, and leadership
Great work ethic and positive attitude

Key Responsibilities
Determine animal requirements by conducting examinations and interviews, reviewing care plans and records, completing laboratory tests and studies, and diagnostic imaging.
Care for patients by taking vital signs, collecting samples, administering medications, drugs, and vaccines, and bandaging and wrapping wounds.
Support patient examinations and operations by assembling required supplies and instruments, securing and bringing patients to examination rooms, and restraining patients; aids as directed by the veterinarian.
Provide excellent pet care by applying full knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, pharmacology, specialized equipment usage, and specialized drug administration.
Obtain and verify medications.
Ensure that patients have food and water, clean patients' rooms, cages, and equipment; observe patients for clinical signs of disease.
As directed, fill prescriptions and administer medications, including proper documentation, logging, and security of controlled drugs.
Maintain a safe, secure, healthy, and humane environment by sterilizing and wrapping instruments, sanitizing and disinfecting holding and operating areas, storing sterile supplies, verifying shelf life, following standards and procedures, and in compliance with applicable legal regulations.
Maintain medical records by documenting patients' conditions, reactions, and changes; update the database in an accurate and timely manner.
Communicate with the pet owner about the status of the patient, as directed by the veterinarian.
Maintain equipment by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining equipment supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
Maintain inventory, place orders for needed supplies, verify, and maintain receipts.
Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional journals.
Release pets to their owners as directed; ensure that every animal released is clean and properly groomed before their release.
Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
Perform other duties as assigned by Manager or practice.
Qualifications (Required)
Current Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) certification in Anesthesia and Analgesia (NAVTA/AVTAA recognized).
Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT, RVT, or LVT) in good standing.
Minimum of 5 years clinical experience, with at least 2 years in anesthesia in a specialty or emergency setting.
Strong knowledge of advanced anesthesia techniques and pharmacology.
Excellent communication, leadership, and teaching skills.

Job DescriptionVeterinary assisting covers a diverse range of tasks and patient care which depend of previous experience and aptitude of a new team member. Previous experience is helpful but the desire to help animals, people and contribute to a positive work environment is most important.
Over the first 12 weeks a new veterinary assistants training will progress through the following:
- Proper cleaning and disinfection of floors, kennels and surgical equipment.
- Animal restraint which includes safely and comfortably holding animals for the technicians and veterinarians while they perform vaccines, x-rays, administering medications, drawing labs samples and placing IV's.
- Assisting the veterinarian in exam rooms and learning to invoice clients.
- Prepare lab samples for outside labs and process samples in-house via automated machines.
- Final phase of training involves direct care of patients. Assistants will learn to administer medications both orally and intravenously, adjust IV lines and fluid pumps, and finally assist in surgery with documenting anesthesia parameters and safely recovering anesthesia patients.
Not every aspect of the job is glamorous, but every aspect of the job is imperative to the lives and wellbeing of our patients. Assisting in emergencies will be part of the job and can be extremely interesting and rewarding. Communication skills, empathy and sound judgment are vital. The position isn't just about animals. During euthanasias and emergencies we see clients in delicate emotional states who need our care, support and understanding. Supporting and understanding clients during these times is vital while also caring for their loved (furry) family members.
Pay range is $17.00 to 19.00 per hour depending on previous experience.
Job benefits are listed below. Paid time off is accrued so all staff receive two weeks (80 hours) PTO per year. Additional unpaid time off is accommodated on a case-by-case basis. Staff receive a $2500 credit to use toward veterinary care of personal animals (or animals of friends and family) annually. Retirement plan is offered with 3% match. Paid holidays include Memorial and Labor day, Independence day, Thanksgiving, Christmas day and New Year's day. Maternity leave is paid 100% for six weeks with additional six weeks unpaid if desired.
Most staff prefer to work 4 ten hour shifts so that has traditionally been our scheduling strategy, but we are open to other scheduling options. Surgery (10a-1p) and end-of day are the times that require the most coverage. We are open Mondays through Fridays and at this time don't anticipate re-opening weekends, but cannot rule it out in the future.

Basic Qualifications
Minimum of one year of experience working with and/or caring for companion animals and aquatic life is required for this position. Certification

Education/Skills

Work Environment
The majority of job duties are conducted indoors, although guest carryouts and veterinary visits will require that a partner leave the PCC briefly.
