About this Position
We are looking to fill three Animal Technician Positions. This is a 12-month full-time position with the title of AIGR Animal Technician. The position works with AIGR Farms and performs daily animal maintenance, research, and extension activities. This position falls within the AIGR Extension and Research Plan of Work and is funded through federal and state appropriations with the supervision of the Langston University Sherman Lewis School of Agriculture and Applied Sciences (LU-SL/SAAS).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Daily Duties
* Provide feed and water for goats and farm dogs.
* Cleaning of dairy barn alley, waterers, and Callan gate feeders.
* Provide standard animal management practices.
* Monitor the health and feeding conditions of goats.
* Perform miscellaneous farm duties as assigned by the farm manager.
Weekly Duties
* Check pre dip, post dip and milking parlor cleaning detergents.
* Cleaning and disinfecting maternity and nursery facilities.
* Cleaning of feed containers and buckets.
* Cleaning of the main farm compound every week.
Periodical Duties
* Assist in breeding, kidding, and feeding of newborn kids.
* Perform milking and keep a record of daily milk production.
* Assist in weaning, ear tagging, and related husbandry practices.
* Assist in bleeding, weighing, and sample collection.
Required Qualifications
* High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)

Administer Medications - give patients accurate dosage of prescribed medications, anesthesia, vaccines, or other medications indicated by the DVM
Client Communication - obtain medical information from the clients and provide the client proper instruction on how to care for the animal under the veterinarian's plan of care
Assist the Client Service Specialist team when needed

* Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures, safely support induction and monitoring of anesthetized patients including checking and recording vital parameters (under direction of the veterinarian), monitor patients during recovery, and prepare them for discharge to owner or transfer to an overnight care facility as needed.
* Provide in-hospital treatments for sick patients including giving injectable and oral medications as well as intravenous therapies; keep patients clean, watered, and fed (when indicated and directed by veterinarian), and safely walk canine patients when necessary for elimination.
* Participate in the training of new staff members and general dissemination of knowledge as required.
* Keep hospital environment neat and clean; perform regular cleaning of environment based on necessity as well as based on a pre-determined maintenance schedule.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
* Perform additional duties as assigned.
* Provide backup phone and front desk support as needed.
Nature of Supervision:
In all activities related to the care of patients, the Veterinary Technician will take direct supervision from the veterinarians as well as the Hospital Office Manager or Hospital Leader on Duty. For purposes of overall supervision, the Veterinary Technician takes direction from the Hospital Office Manager.
Planning and Problem Solving:
Like all team members, the Veterinary Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring that day-to-day operation of the hospital is efficient and provides an optimal experience for our patients and clients.

The Credentialed Veterinary Technician performs a critical role in providing high quality care for patients. Credentialed Technicians are key partners to the veterinarians, providing the appropriate support to ensure each client interaction and procedure is seamless and successful. Credentialed Technicians apply their professional skills in anesthesia, surgery, dentistry, laboratory testing, patient nursing, and client education.
Registered Veterinary Technicians are eligible for a $1,000 sign on bonus, to be paid in two increments at 90 days and 1 year of employment.

Essential Responsibilities
Assist veterinarians in the practice of veterinary medicine and surgery and other tasks as needed.
Assist veterinarians in outpatient exams by taking histories, vital signs, and weights, as well as providing client education.
Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs of the patient during surgery.
Obtain blood, stool, and other samples; perform in-hospital laboratory testing and prepare specimens for outside laboratories.
Take, develop, and maintain radiographs following proper safety procedures.
Provide basic animal handling and restrain animals during exams.
Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments at the discretion of the veterinarian.
Clean and straighten exam rooms, treatment, and lab areas; restock exam rooms with supplies. Assist other team members to keep the public areas of the practice clean; clean and maintain all medical equipment.
Demonstrate warmth, courtesy and professionalism in all interactions with clients; exercise compassion and care in all interactions with patients.
Communicate with veterinarians and practice team members including client discussions, patient plans, client concerns, etc.

Staff shall complete VA mandatory training as requested and complete ACLS/BLS training and keep ACLS/BLS certifications current throughout the life of the contract. Certification refers to the successful completion of an American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network (MTN) approved BLS or ACLS course. The AHA and MTN are the only programs acceptable by VA for obtaining required certification.

Complete work according to industry and safety protocols; follow detailed oral and written directions, precautions, and procedures.
Perform other duties as directed by supervisor(s) and needs of the department such as answering the phones, greeting and processing lab patients.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school equivalent and completion of NAACLS or two-part Phlebotomy program.
A current certification and registration as a Phlebotomy Technician from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (PBT-ASCP) or the American Medical Technologists (RPT-AMT).
Must have performed 40 hours of classroom training, 100 hours of clinical training and 10 successful venipuncture (including skin punctures).
Minimum of one year of experience as a Phlebotomy Technician after graduation.
Staff shall complete VA mandatory training as requested and complete ACLS/BLS training and keep ACLS/BLS certifications current throughout the life of the contract. Certification refers to the successful completion of an American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network (MTN) approved BLS or ACLS course. The AHA and MTN are the only programs acceptable by VA for obtaining required certification.
Must be a US Citizen.
