Maintain a safe, secure, healthy, and humane environment by sterilizing and wrapping instruments, sanitizing and disinfecting holding and operating areas, storing sterile supplies, verifying shelf life, following standards and procedures, and in compliance with applicable legal regulations.
Maintain medical records by documenting patients' conditions, reactions, and changes; update the database in an accurate and timely manner.
Communicate with the pet owner about the status of the patient, as directed by the veterinarian.
Maintain equipment by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining equipment supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
Maintain inventory, place orders for needed supplies, verify, and maintain receipts.
Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional journals.
Release pets to their owners as directed; ensure that every animal released is clean and properly groomed before their release.
Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
Perform other duties as assigned by Manager or practice.

High school diploma or GED.

We are looking for a Certified Veterinary Technician or an Experienced Veterinary Assistant to assist with procedures for homeless animals at our adoption center and with owned patients from our low-cost community clinic. This innovative veterinary clinic opened in 2019 at the Essex North Shore Agricultural and Technical High School (Essex Tech), and is part of the veterinary assistant program at Essex Tech. The VA program for Essex Tech students offers a rigorous academic curriculum combined with experiential training in the newly built, on-site veterinary clinic managed by Angell at Essex clinicians and staff.
Qualified applicants should excel in interpersonal communication skills and must be reliable, independent, and able to work in a dynamic and fast-paced team environment while maintaining a positive and enthusiastic attitude. Candidates must have a strong technical background and knowledge of veterinary medicine and recognize the importance of conveying this knowledge and expertise to others, as well as a passion for veterinary surgery and anesthesia. The Angell at Essex Technician/Assistant works collaboratively with our veterinarians, veterinary support staff, and students to provide our patients and clientele excellent clinical and customer service. Typical duties include providing veterinary support in the examination room with outpatients and in-patient visit, assisting with case management of animals admitted to the clinic (day cases only, no overnight services), assisting with procedures, and respectful and effective communication with clients, teachers, students, and sometimes referring veterinarians.
Additional duties include:
Assist veterinarians with pre-appointment preparation (obtaining referral records, summarizing patient history and vaccine status)
Participate during appointments (patient handling/restraint, recording in EMR, preparing vaccines, etc.)

Job Description
Primary Duties:
1. Provide veterinary care for all species used in research and development.
• First line evaluation of clinical cases to all species on site
• Initiate diagnostics and treatment in consultation with veterinarian.
• Communicate cases progress, treatment and recommendation to the PI/Scientist in conjunction with the veterinarian
• Monitor treatment and progress
• Preventive medicine such as rodent health monitoring program, microbiology, disease surveillance

• Behavioral monitoring in all species
• Promoting the 3 R's (Reduction, Refinement, Replacement)

Qualifications
Preference would be for an individual with a BS in Biology/Microbiology (or similar).
• Lab experience (or small scale fermentation experience) is a very strong preference.
• Need someone that wouldn't need to necessarily be taught the basics of GMP and GLP (i.e., good documentation practices, basic Micro lab skills, etc.).
• So, a minimum of at least 2-5 years of experience would probably be ideal. If the person has sound lab experience, but not necessarily within the industry, I would not necessarily discount them.
• In this situation, the basic lab/micro knowledge is what is the most critical piece, in addition to being able to work independently as needed.

Basic Qualifications
