What You'll Do



This position qualifies for a $2,000 sign on bonus following successful completion of 6 months of employment for newly hired employees.


The Veterinary Technician works as part of an integrated clinical care team to provide high quality nursing care to inpatient, outpatient, critically ill and emergent patients. In addition, the Veterinary Technician supervises and instructs veterinary students on each rotation.


What We're Looking For



Basic Requirements:
Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology or a high school diploma (or the equivalent) with at least one year of related experience. CVT or licensure eligible. Comprehensive understanding of medical terminology and familiarity with veterinary pharmacology. Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities for several patients within a busy clinical setting. Technical abilities such as patient restraint, venipuncture, fluid administration, medication administration, monitoring and treating patients. Ability to effectively work as a member of a diverse team of clinical and administrative professionals. Basic computer skills including the ability to learn the electronic medical record system. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Veterinary Technology preferred. Four or more years of ECC veterinary medicine experience preferred. Credentialed as a Certified Veterinary Technician Exotic animal handling skills desirable
Special Work Schedule Requirements:
The schedule for this position may include providing University and calendar holiday coverage on a rotating basis. The schedule for this position may include evening and weekend hours. The schedule for this position requires flexibility to insure that adequate patient care is provided without interruption or exception. This position is considered essential and is therefore required to report to work as scheduled during emergency closings

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A TECH
Assist veterinarians in all aspects of AHS' wellness clinic including surgery, laboratory diagnostics, fluid therapy, emergency care as necessary, the administration of prescribed medications, client education and clinic asepsis. TPR, administer vaccines and other medications, implant microchips
Check in/check out patients for surgery. Assist veterinarians and technicians in the evaluation, surgery, and recovery for patients. Perform anesthesia, prep, fluid therapy, laboratory procedures, injections, and medication.
Monitor vital signs of sedated and anesthetized patients in preoperative, operative, and post-operative phases. Intubate animals, place intravenous catheters, perform venipuncture, and administer fluids as needed. Offer post-operative care to our pets. Maintain all records and documentation in our clinic management software. Offer an excellent experience every time to our customers. Offer compassionate communication and clear home-care directions for their pets.



EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma OR Preferably completion of a veterinary technician program OR experience at a veterinary hospital or clinic. CVT not required. Education may substitute for experience. Must be at least 21 years of age.



Language Skills: Able to speak, read and write English; Spanish language helpful.


Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic mathematical skills.


Computer Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Explorer; able to learn other software programs as necessary. Proficiency with or able to learn/use Chameleon software (for use with animals in a shelter environment).


Other Skills, Abilities and Qualifications: Regular attendance is required. Access to reliable transportation.


Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
