The LVT guides and trains medical support staff, ensures smooth workflow during shifts, and communicates effectively with team members and clients. Note: The Licensed Veterinary Technician title is used in the following states based on state-specific licensing and credentialing requirements: Alaska, Georgia, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Nevada, New York, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and Kentucky. Responsibilities may vary depending on the hospital and/or state. Responsibilities will be outlined by the state's Veterinary Practice Act and/or the responsible veterinarian, where applicable Responsibilities Deliver patient care under the supervision of a veterinarian (DVM). Maintain clear and accurate medical, client, and case records using appropriate terminology and grammar. Review medical records, treatment estimates, and discharge instructions with clients, and respond to basic animal care inquiries, escalating medical questions to veterinarians as needed. Guide and support medical support staff to ensure efficient shift operations and workflow. Mentor team members to encourage career growth and personal development. Provide input for 360-degree performance evaluations of employees. Assist with client services including appointment scheduling, payments, check-in, and courteous phone communication. Provide feedback and suggest improvements to training programs; participate in training sessions, job shadows, and working interviews. Perform assigned cleaning, clinic upkeep, and equipment maintenance tasks. Delegate cleaning or other duties during slow periods when a supervisor is unavailable. Identify and address areas needing additional attention within the clinic environment. Answer client inquiries confidently about routine procedures and animal care. Communicate effectively with team members and clients to support patient care and hospital operations. Perform other related duties as assigned within the nature and level of work. Qualifications * High school diploma or equivalent. * Graduate of an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technician program. * Current state veterinary technician license in good standing. * One year of experience in the veterinary industry is preferred. * Proficiency in a range of technical skills including laboratory procedures, pharmacy, radiology, surgery, dental care, and nursing. * Ability to administer subcutaneous (SQ), intramuscular (IM), and intravenous (IV) injections. * Knowledge of commonly used veterinary medications including dosage, side effects, and client communication. * Understanding of anesthesia and patient recovery monitoring, with the ability to recognize and report changes in patient status. * Ability to remain calm and efficient in stressful or fast-paced environments, including medical emergencies. * Strong verbal and written communication skills. * Comfort and confidence in handling animals of all sizes and temperaments. Position Overview As an Operations Specialist in Animal Care, your role will be to ensure that proper animal care and husbandry is being provided for all companion animals and aquatic life in the Pet Care Center (PCC). This includes ensuring that all companion animal and aquatic life maintenance, companion animal incident reports and hourly animal health checks are completed as required. * Process register transactions in a way that creates a great experience for each guest. * Be proficient within our selling model and support guest interactions as needed. * Ensure merchandise is stocked, priced, and displayed to create a great presentation for our guests. * Complete and apply training programs to maintain a high level of expertise of their role and educate other PCC partners in animal care and maintenance. * Promote a positive culture of teamwork, inclusion, and collaboration. * Adhere to established operational guidelines, policies, and procedures. * Evaluate guest inquiries and refers to the Leader on Duty as needed. * Act as primary resource for guests and other PCC partners regarding all animal education and care. * Efficiently orders companion animals and aquatic life, supplies and merchandise in partnership with the sales team to maximize sales, margin, and inventory. * Analyzes department inventory management data and recommends areas for improvement. * Perform routine housekeeping tasks as required to maintain the professional image and appearance of the companion animal habitat and aquatic areas, to include sweeping/mopping the floors, dusting, cleaning the tanks, facing the merchandise on the shelves, etc. * Ensures the proper handling and documentation for all relinquished and adoption animals. * Verifies animal related maintenance tasks are being completed as outlined on the Maintenance Schedules. * Participates in the completion of all animal and aquatic life related physical inventory counts. * Adheres to and promotes established safety and loss prevention procedures. * Performs additional duties and projects as required or assigned with or without regular supervision. Work Environment The majority of job duties are conducted indoors, although guest carryouts and veterinary visits will require that a partner leave the PCC briefly. Because this position requires bending, kneeling, moving merchandise (up to 50 pounds, as necessary) and standing for long periods of time, there may be risk of injury resulting from not following procedures.
